How rare is an audiophile
To be honest, I really can't get too worked up about how many people share our passion for good recorded sound. As long as there are enough of us to keep the industry both in business, and in their pursuit of better sound. It's always been a niche...
How rare is an audiophile
Not that I've looked that thoroughly, but I'd guess you can count the number of high end audio enthusiasts on my island on the fingers of one hand.
How many of you streaming?
If I like whatever I'm hearing I'll listen until something else happens in my life that needs attending to. If I have to wait to the next day to continue listening to the album I'll certainly do it. In the main, though, I'm not a fan of computer-...
Your audiophile chair
When my Stressless Recliner finally got worn & ugly enough for my wife to insist I get rid of it (it also began to squeak), I simply substituted a nice, luxurious, padded, non-reclining chair I had in the living room. The fabric is just rough ...
"But it sounds better at night...."
There are a lot of factors involved. Right now at 10:30 in the morning, I'm getting truly excellent sound via a CD quality feed of some Aaron Copeland via Idagio. Dallas Symphony. Beautiful tone and dynamics. More than good-enough imaging. Can't c...
A rare opportunity (or at least I think it's rare)
Hey! Sounds good! Listening to it now.
What was the craziest location that you made an audio purchase from?
Nowhere except from over-priced HiFi emporia.... I have, though, "donated" one or two components I lost my jones for at thrift shops.
Your audiophile chair
I'll second the Ekorness Stressless recliner.
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
I seldom obsess over the amount of money I've spent on hi-fi. I've never totally emptied my wallet, in any case. I like what I've got, and I refuse to wag my finger at the big spenders.  The only reason I'd go back into the market is if something ...
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
If I had it I would spend it...liberally but wisely, of course. The same goes for musical instruments and travel.
"But it sounds better at night...."
Less ambient noise, thanks to less traffic in the neighborhood and up above.
45 Singles You Just Had to Buy
@tylermunns For me at least, the US and UK LP releases always had enough differences in them to warrant buying both. I got to say, too, that the UK releases were almost always the ones I kept when, in a fit of madness, I'd decide it just wasn't "p...
How can you evaluate a system with highly processed music?
I've probably already mentioned this elsewhere, but a violin/fiddle sounds distinctly different when it's under your ear...in other words, you are playing it yourself...than it does when somebody else is playing it, even a couple feet away.
45 Singles You Just Had to Buy
I’ve got a few picture sleeve 45 singles as well. Elvis Costello, Live at Hollywood High Springsteen, Fire Rolf Harris, Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport A box set of tunes from the Dinah Shore musical, Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick. And yeah -- a ...
Top two most important sound qualities
As gladmo sez.... We live in three dimensions. In the natural world we hear sounds in three dimensions. Ergo -- 3D soundstaging means more realism. Higher fidelity.
