Richard Strauss Recordings
@mahgister Thanks for the response. Logic has always somewhat of an alien concept in my life. It's always been more of a tool than an outright passion or goal. I made a pretty good living in the film industry employing logical arguments to influ...

Richard Strauss Recordings
@magister  Stravinsky actually did change my life...or at least my musical aesthetic. My dad would regularly bring home an LP of classical music for me to give a try, and one of them was Petrushka on a cheapie LP with the Cento Soli orchestra of P...
Girl from Ipanima passed away
I loved that record. I bought the 45 and played it endlessly. Saw it performed on TV. It got me to buy Charley Byrd's oh-so-atmospheric 1960's Bossa Nova LP "Brazilian Byrd."
So you just took a gummie...What song is on the menu?

Why 432hz Tuning?
@frogman  It's a simple matter of practicality. A lot of G and D fiddle strings simply cannot take the tension it takes to tune to the necessary A and E pitches.  I've had more than my share of G and D strings snap. It might happen immediately. S...
Can’t buy output tubes anywhere except from manufacturers at high prices.
When I lived in a part of L.A. where a good deal of the movie studios were located, I had maybe three or four nearby retail outlets where I could buy the tubes I required to power my stereo. This was especially important during the days of my 8417...
Curious to know what you guys think/like about Pink Floyd's early work
Oddly, I was much more of a Pink Floyd fan before DSOTM, which I considered a bald if understandable bid to finally make some real money. It's the only Pink Floyd release where it truly took several months before I went to the record store to buy ...
Curious to know what you guys think/like about Pink Floyd's early work
I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since their first hit...at least on L.A. radio...Interstellar Overdrive.  I bought every one of their LPs until their big hit...was it Dark Side of the Moon? I still occasionally listen to my LP of Atom Heart Mother. ...
Why 432hz Tuning?
Lots of Folk/Old Time fiddle music is played on a fiddle that is either "Cross-Tuned" (AEAE, GDGD etc.) or "Black Mountain-tuned", cross-tuned but with the high E string further tuned down so it is a Third above the A string. These alternate tunin...

@mahgister  Great having you here! It's always a pleasure to read your posts.
Why 432hz Tuning?
Several piano tuners have told me that my circa 1900 Mason Hamlin upright piano will never be able to be tuned at 440hz. It’s just the way it is. Embrace the inconsistencies of tuning. Be flexible when you tune your guitar, banjo, fiddle or electr...
Richard Strauss Recordings
@rafevw -- Hey! That's the recording I mention above! Jus' gotta love it.
Richard Strauss Recordings
I'm just not that strong a Richard Strauss fan. The only piece that truly pushes all my buttons is The Four Last Songs, which I have on an old Angel/EMI LP with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and George Szell conducting the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra....

The way I see it, an initial post is more a conversation starter than a demand for a precise response. After all weren't these websites once commonly referred to as "chat rooms?" I see threads as social gatherings. Not as visits to the doctor.
