Looking for a remote for a MHZS CD 33e
Thanks. I may try a universal but I was looking for an OEM remote because according to what I read on that remote you can select the sampling rate. So while a universal may handle on/off, play etc, I am not sure it will perform this more specializ...
I will leave the fluid discussion to others, I have a VPI cleaning machine and the fluids I got with that seem to do a good job on both dirt and fingerprint oil. When considering whether to re-clean after a recent use I think you have to consider ...
Where will my powercables be used best ?
As a general rule I think your better power cords would have the most benefit on the "front end" of the system - the power regenerator, the cd/sacd source and the preamp.
New pressing CSN debut - any good?
I have not heard the 180 gm repress but I have heard and recommend the 200gm Classic Vinyl pressing. You can get still get that at Acoustic Sounds for $50. I am an HDCD fan and have the Rhino HDCD reissue of CSN. Overall really good -has four bonu...
KEF 105/2 center speaker suggestion?
I have switched back and forth between KEF 105 2's and 105 3's as my stereo speakers and the fronts to my home theater set up. I am presently using a Monitor Audio center. IMO a Monitor Audio center (say a Silver), a B&W (say the HTM 62), or m...
Vandersteen speakers have a rep as being "built form the bottom up" so lack of bass is usually not an issue. That said I remember when I owned a pair of 1C's there were extensive placement instructions. So I would recommend looking at their placem...
How do you guys choose between CD releases?
I think all of what has been said already is true in some cases. Old releases are sometimes better than new ones. Sonically more and more new music is tweaked for the ipod listener. On the other hand some new releases such as the Beatles remasters...
MFSL Gold cd's
1) If you have an interest in a certain title, tracking sales on ebay, audiogon and other sites should probably give you an idea of what the going price is. Sonically, I have found some of the MFSL cds worth the premium I paid and others not.2) Wh...
Budget single disc player-under $600
While have I not listened to the specific Cambridge Audio models you have listed, I did own the original 640 and the version 2 and for the money they were excellent single disc players. In fact I preferred them to the comparable NAD models at that...
Benefit of a DAC for a good red book cd player
I also agree with your friend. In that price range about the only thing you could gain would be HDCD decoding but as far as sound I think it would be a wash.
Best Phono Preamp under $300 ?
I agree with the recommendation of the Cambridge audio and would add an Acurus P-10 if you can find one used.
Phono Amp recomendation
A number of suggestions - on the new side I agree with the recommendation of the Cambridge 640 p. You might also try the NAD PP-2 or PP-3. On the used side you could try Acurus p-10 or if you want a something on the tube side the Jolida 9.
Speakers help for a newb...
While you can't go wrong with the Magnepan MMGs at under $600 new (especially because you can put the price you pay to a more expensive model), I agree with an earlier comment that 75w might not be enough for Maggies, With your power limits in min...
Headphone amp for Grado 125's ???
While I haven't heard your setup I listen through a pair of Grado 325i's. In that price range I would look for used Channel Island VHP-1 and adding the upgraded power supply for a little more cash would be that much better
