Best Loudspeakers for Rich Timbre?
I recently went on the search for the perfect speaker, and the ability to capture the natural rich sound (timbre) of an acoustic instrument was one of my priorities. I home auditioned 15 speakers (review here: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussion...
In search for speakers of "natural" sound
I too was searching for a natural sounding speaker.  I wrote a review of 15 different speakers I home demoed. I ended up with Boenicke speakers.  The designer seems to spend much time recording concerts and as far as I understand it always aims to...

Thanks for all your positive comments. This is the first discussion or review I have posted on Audiogon so it is pleasing that it has had positive feedback.

@prof - yes I was surprised as I heard an Audio Physic speaker in Munich and they impressed me with their soundstaging. It must be that they were not optimized in my room, as they were placed close to the rear wall, which for whatever reason the B...

@kot - thanks for your post.  We may have different tastes as the Boenicke room in Munich was my best all-round room (though there was a room with 300k euro horn speakers which blew my mind - but I’m not counting that!).   Eminent Tech 8bs are ele...

I wonder how your choices would have been effected if your system had DSP available for all of the speakers you heard. I did not want to get anything in the way of the wonderful Vitus - and the DSP boxes seem to work as pre-amps.   The boom on ...
Stillpoints - snake oil?
In a recent Hi-Fi+ magazine article the journalist interviews and follows a Hi-Fi consultant.  This consultant is employed by people to come over to their home and he spends time aligning the system: speakers, racks, cables etc.  Under each compon...
Boenicke
I demoed 15 speakers in the last year and ended up with Boenicke.  I wrote a review of them all here:http://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/a-brief-review-of-15-high-end-speakers-on-home-demo-including...
CDs Vs LPs
CD for sure.  I have A/Bd the two and CD always wins out in my book.  I have finally found a particular CD player which sounds as 'analogue' as the best record deck I have heard: the Vitus SCD-025.  Whatever mystery substance is in that DAC works ...
Looking for a warm sweet speaker
The Swiss brand Boenicke are a speaker worth checking out if they are available in your area. They have this unique balance of naturalness and warmth whilst losing nothing in detail. Extraordinary speakers. The Boenicke/CAD room in Munich was one ...
Please evaluate my system...
I agree re AC mains. The biggest improvement I ever had was adding a dedicated Hi-Fi ring main from the mains fuse board (I am in the UK). The old house power outlets which connect to the other house sockets remain and sit next to the new dedicate...
First Foray into XLR
I have a fully balanced Vitus amp and yet still found the rca version of my Townsend F1 Fractal cable sounded better than the XLR equivalent, and better than other XLRs I tried including Transparent cables.
Interconnects and non-believers
Hey @Geoffkait, someone back there or on another thread said you have a website - I can’t find a way on here to pm you but could you send a link if there is a way to do that on this Audiogon? You have interesting views. Sorry to go off-topic.
Floor standing speaker isolation advice needed.
I know you said Gaia and Townshend are out of budget, but if they ever come into budget please do trial them. I found both upgraded my speaker in the bass department to an unexpected and astounding level. In Munich Isoacoustics were demoing their ...
