Why wont speaker companies publish their measurements?
First, Kenjit, some of us believe in freedom. You want to remove freedom from the speaker manufacturers. Where else should we remove freedoms? It sounds like a dangerous argument in a time when the US Capitol was so recently stormed. Second, there...
HOW MUCH DO NON-AUDIO FACTORS INFLUENCE YOUR AUDIO PURCHASES?
This has been a nice thread. Thanks everyone for the air in which the discussion has been conducted. This is not the easiest question to answer, because I think there are many conflicting criteria that I have. Sound quality? Of course. But having ...
Stereo systems are like Harleys
And then there are the Ural hack riders like me, with a Thorens TD124. The 60 year old Thorens needs less work!
Article: "Spin Me Round: Why Vinyl is Better Than Digital"
First of all, although I part ways with the author numerous times, there is real content here. Those who responded specifically on issues of audio quality either didn’t read carefully enough, didn’t understand it or chose to respond with issues of...
Oppression within the speaker industry and how it can be stopped?
Oppression, Kenjit? I find that insulting and demeaning to groups who have suffered genuine oppression. Perhaps you should rephrase you original post so as not to retraumatize those who have endured genuine suffering. Does this make sense to you?
Thorens TD 124 or TD 125 MK.
I am a 124 owner; as a kid a friend's dad had a 125 which was drool worthy back in the day, but I can't speak about it from a SQ perspective. The TD124, as mentioned by BR3098, requires diligence in set-up and it has to be a labor of love. If you e...
Keith Jarrett may never play again
I was very saddened to hear of this. Aging can be so cruel. To have a stroke and lose the use of his left hand—well frankly it’s Alzheimers for a musician—an illness that steals away your personality and soul and deprives you of some crucial and f...
Speakers which always sound good
Not perfectly flat in measurements, I nonetheless have loved Totems both for their musicality and their ease of placement within many types of space. I also agree with the one or two folks who recommended Ohm Speakers if a standard dynamic isnt a ...

The Linn Karousel bearing.
My Thorens TD124 main bearing is being precision adjusted down to 5 micron accuracy also.  Can’t wait to get it back in the next week or two and see change in sound quality. Friends who have had it down are thrilled  with what those small toleranc...
Jazz is not Blues and Blues is not Jazz.......
For those lacking in technical or historical background, might I suggest one of Ted Gioia’s books. Former Stanford professor of music—and a Jazz musician. He demonstrates the tight linkage between Jazz and blues. And he’s quite readable as an adde...

Wild Fires, Air Purifiers and Sound Systems
@tablejockey , I don’t know why folks do what they do. But I suspect we have lost the training to think of others first. The rains have begun here, and while AQI is still triple digits, its under 200 which is a milestone here. @jameswei , thanks f...
