The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth
@halcro Here is an extract from the Shure white papers...what happens at the resonance frequency? One important characteristic of resonance is that motions are magnified considerably, in this case, typically from 2 to 10 times. In both situations,...
Any Sota Sapphire experts out there?
dorkyguyrandy5/16"-18steelheadI used the adjustable VTA to compensate for a very long term and slow sinking of the armboard over many years.  If your armboard is sinking then the platter and armboard would be out of level unless the other four cor...

@halcro Thanks. My suspicion would be that the extra mass anchors the sound a little more whereas the metal headshell imparts a little more of the vibrancy.I did notice the worst mistracking appeared on the left channel.Van den hul styli do tend t...

Halcro - I am not sure if you are having me on.There is significantly more surface noise with the carbon fiber headshell. It is possible the VTA is not the same on both shells.Listening to both this is what I hear ( on ear buds ) -On violins with t...
Denon DL-103 and Audio Note AN-S2 SUT problem
To be clear, your dealer is a plonker. The Audio Note ANS2/L has a switchable impedance of 3 & 12 ohms. The 3 ohm input is for the Audio Note IO cartridge. The 12 ohm input is for cartridges with an internal impedance of 3-4 ohms. These inputs are...

PPStill listening to the Sony whilst I'm posting, will be interesting to hear from Frogman, to my ears I'm hearing far more of the individual tonal colours of individual voices and the orchestral instruments appear far more realistic in tonal colo...

@halcro cc @frogman Palladian/London Decca Reference/Sony XLGreat music. Beautiful. In a nutshell firstly comparing the Palladian to the Decca, again ibuds, the Decca wins, most notably I can hear the chest and body of the female choristers, even i...

@halcro cc @frogman Hi, apologies for tardiness, still waiting for the Baroque !!For the 1st comparison Palladian vs Sony I was quite shocked at what appears to me ( ibuds as usual ) considerably more resolution with the Sony. Is it my imagination...
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
@halcro Thanks for the update. Since the gentleman from Mexico has called most of us ignorant, it is fortuitous that you used the appropriate non gender specific pronoun, otherwise you might have been in deep doodoos on your own thread.
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
Moerch that comes from the Highphonic tonearm design.Wrong. Moerch released its first tonearm UP4 in 1981, 4 years before the Highphonic was launched in 1985. I think you’ll find the Highphonic arm was a rebadged Moerch. From where came Highphonic...

@halcro It’s impossible via the YouTube Videos to hear the ephemeral nuances that I hear in my room....things like soundstage (side to side and back to back), transparency, imaging, image height etcHi Halcro - in my view, even on standard mac ibud...
Adjusting the cueing mechanism on a Mørch tonearm
You should adjust the back of the arm so that the arm is level when the stylus is on the groove to set VTA.The height of the lifter can be adjusted by undoing the allen screw in the front of the platform that holds it. You should raise the arm and...

@halcro Wow - that was quick. You wouldn’t know these were the same cartridge if you hadn’t labelled them. This is why I have 4 decent tonearms.I’m very interested in what you think yourself as well as @frogman .For me on this particular piece of ...

Halcro,Probably yes. Just reinforcing the TT/Tonearm/Cartridge hierarchy. I still see many folk here putting expensive cartridges on cheap TT's & arms.Having said that tonearm matching would be a critical part of selecting a $10k cartridge for...
Hear my Cartridges....🎶
Halcro, The answer is that depends. I wouldn't buy the Palladian unless I had a top flight tonearm. If you are looking for some of the atrributes of the Palladian ( speed and coherence ) for $2k a couple of possibilities are the London Decca range...
