Anyone using a Lyra Delos yet?
It hasn't been my experience either. Twenty five years, at least a half dozen different turntable/tonearm combinations with at least a twenty different cartridges. Some dealer set up and some by me using various alignment tools. To my ear vinyl be...
Modwright KWA 150
Thanks, Jax. I've been at this for a quite a while now and I think I've finally got a system that will satisfy for the long haul. I am indebted to Lou, Dan and Keith for their patient and valuable advice and for their talent and passion for what t...
Modwright KWA 150
I would second what Jax has said about the KWA150/Daedalus combination having lived with it now for about 3 months. Daedalus are available via direct sale and there are a growing cadre of owners who are typically happy to allow interested customer...
Modwright KWA 150
Ideally, you would want to make a decision on your speakers in conjunction with that of your amplification. I'd narrow down my speaker options to your top contender and then try different amplification to see if you can obtain the sound qualities ...
Transmission Line Bass
I have yet to hear a speaker that uses a transmission line enclosure reproduce natural sounding bass. I do think that TL's can produce deep and powerful bass when done correctly, but something about a TL system simply does not sound "right" to me....
Vandersteen 7 at Audio Connection
I agree John and Audio Connection are an increasingly rare breed. Great idea to bring a bunch of folks together to assess what is one of the most talked about speakers to come out in years. Wish I could have been there to share the experience.
Modwright KWA 150
I would say the KWA150 is pretty darn neutral. Though other system changes do not allow me to make a definitive statement, compared to my ARC LS26/SD135 combination, the Modwright LS36.5/KWA150 present a slightly more neutral balance through the m...
Herron VTPH-2
You might want to check out the new Modwright LS100 which I believe has input seleet on the remote. From what I've read this is a very nice and competitively priced linestage that can be ordered with a built in phonostage. Of course, if you have t...
Herron VTPH-2
Interesting. How do you think the Herron linestage mates with the Modwright? I have gotten best results when the preamp or linestage is matched with an amp from the same manufacturer. This was true with my old Audio Research set up as well as my M...
Any Soundstring Fans?
On Dan's recommendation I tried the new speaker cable and interconnects. I compared each of these with Dynamic Design Lotus and Empirical Design. The Soundstring was the least preferred of the three. The single ended IC's are beautifully construct...
Herron VTPH-2
Kclone: How you liking that KWA? Nice, huh?
Herron VTPH-2
Curb;Glad you are enjoying the Herron. Based on the posts, reviews and talking to Keith I decided to buy one a few months ago and got to compare it with my Whest PS.30 before I sold it. First off, I'd like to second your comment about working with...
Whest PS.30RDT vs Herron VTPH-2 vs Modwright 9.0SE
Well, I answered my own question to the best of my ability. While I was unable to hear the Modwright I did manage to run the Herron and the Whest PS.30 head to head and here is what I found--that there is really no contest here. The Herron is ever...
Whest PS.30RDT vs Herron VTPH-2 vs Modwright 9.0SE
Dcarol:Have you had the chance to compare thet RDT or SE version of the Whest to the Modwright and the Herron in the same system? Just wondering how you have come to the conclusion that the other units would be "a downgrade".
Proac D25
I had this in my system for a while using Audio Research electronics. Good midband (not great, the Harbeth Compact 7 is better), decent treble (slightly dry with a little hardness in the upper midrange) and deep but not very articulate bass. The b...
