ZYX R100 Yatra
I think most of the variables are the same, it's that too much time has passed between hearing both that I can't really expand more than that. Both of them do have a nice solid sound, without the whispy-ness of some MC cartridges.
ZYX R100 Yatra
I've never compared them side by side. I've only heard them in a familiar system at different times.

I have owned a couple of Zyx cartridges, your findings are similar to mine. I would try a Soundsmith Hyperion or Sussuro (I am not a fan of the strain gauge). They give a very nice fleshed out sound, and do not have the high frequency tilt of some...
VPI Direct Drive Turntable
HW says it is a $4000 part, is that really the price from ThinGap?
Wood armwand vs Metal armwand
With speakers, the good ones usually try to make the fact they use wood a non-factor; try to make the enclosures inert. And not have the wood try to be part of the signature of the speaker, that is adding its own resonances to color the sound.
Wood armwand vs Metal armwand
Sarcher30 I would prefer not to name manufacturers since I don't think they are individually deserving of the bad press. As for what I am impressed with the Phantom II Supreme is my reference baseline. Consider a wood bodied instrument such as a v...
Wood armwand vs Metal armwand
I can't say I've been too impressed with the wood tonearms I have heard, for such a precise instrument wood is one of the last materials I would think of using.
Stylus profiles for mono records
These Blue Notes and Prestige are microgroove records.
VPI Direct Drive Turntable
From what I have heard the Classic Direct will not be the only VPI to use the direct drive motor.
Stylus profiles for mono records
Any thoughts?
33.3 is now superior to 45
I've gone in for Blue Train since it is a different mix (mono) from the previous 45 rpm version. A true mint mono first pressing recently sold for $3000, so for $35 the reissue is considerably less :-)
Best phono preamp under $500?
Pass Labs Pearl, though it was never sold commercially. I occasionally see user built ones, but at slightly more than $500. Pretty much covering the parts cost. In my opinion with my higher output MC cartridge it sounded much the same as the retai...
Pre-recorded Reel-to Reel tapes
The International Phonograph tapes sound fantastic and are 1:1 dubs (done with great care) of safety masters from music Jonathan recorded himself.
'Mono' Cartridges vs. Mono Buttons
Thanks for the explanation Jonathan.
'Mono' Cartridges vs. Mono Buttons
Does anyone have list of "true mono" cartridges that only have a single pickup coil?
