MBL 101e's vs. Soundlab U-1's
Hi Tomer, Those are also very good choices. Unfortunately, I can't listen to everything. I'm pretty much settled on the MBl's, as I think that they can rock better than the SL's. Not that that's the only consideration, but I do like to go for it a...
MBL 101e's vs. Soundlab U-1's
As my tastes have evolved (or devolved, depending on your inclination), I have really come to value dynamics. Musical energy and excitement. Contrary to one poster, I do love R&R, but I also like other types of music. After some reflection, my...
Pick your poison...2-channel or multi?
I really love multichannel, and have set up my system for it. Dynaudio Temptations for the mains, Dynaudio Evidence center and C4-s for surrounds. The player was an EMM Labs CDSD/Dac6e until recently. Now it's an Esoteric X01 limtied. The v=center...
Dynaydio Temptation owners - what's you setup?
Get a SS amp with lots of balls. Dynaudios love power. Of your list, I would go for Plinius first. I haven't heard the new Pass', but I did have a pair of 600's which I found to be harmonically thin.David

Boulder 2060 stereo amp, ARC Ref3 pramp, Esoteric X01 limited CD player. All run through Nordost Valhalla cabling. I also have a heavily treated dedicated room.David Shapiro
Any advantage to using monobloc amps
No difference in my system. I went from several brands of monos (Rowland, Pass, Krell) to a Boulder stereo 2060 and I have never looked back. I believe that it is system-dependent.David
EMM Labs vs. Esoteric X-01
Has anybody critically compared the X01 to the X01 limited? Is there an upgrade path?
EMM Lab CDSD transport motor resonating
No problem with mine, after I had it (the metal tray) replaced under warranty.David Shapiro
Anybody have a problem buying modded units.
I don't really want to identify the piece and it's mods, since it is still for sale here. However, in the long run, I always think of resellability (if I can coin a word). After 7 years, i'm finally settling on pieces that give me a sound that I l...
Esoteric X-01 Limited or new D-03/P-03
Has anybody switched from RCA to balanced cables? Can you describe the differences? Thanks,David
Esoteric X-01 Limited or new D-03/P-03
Is the D-03/P-03 stereo or multichannel? Also, can anyone tell what the upgrades are to the X-01 make it an LE?Thanks,David
WILL THE NEW 60,000 AVALON ISIS BE THE BEST YET?
I also moved to a dedicated room a few months ago and this has helped tremendously.David
WILL THE NEW 60,000 AVALON ISIS BE THE BEST YET?
Hi Sir speedy, I went through Rowland 9Tis', Pass 600's, krell 750 Mcx' and finally a Boulder 2060 to get close to the sound that I liked. I didn't have the time/energy/patience to audition separate bass amps and bi-amp. I've spoken extensively ov...
WILL THE NEW 60,000 AVALON ISIS BE THE BEST YET?
Hi,Good luck with the Iis. I owned a pair of the Osiris speakers for about 4 years, and they truly lacked the slam that you are describing. They were what my dealer characterized as "polite" and what I characterized as "boring". I currently have D...
EMM Labs vs. Esoteric X-01
Hi All, I'v continued my listening with a series of instrumnetal pieces. Two of my favorites are Leo Kottke's "6 and 12 string guitar" (CD and SACD), and Guitartown by Steve Earle, also SACD. The second isn't only guitar, but I listen for Steve's ...
