Do people tire of audio forums?
What make me tire of forums is when a forum owner, or so called 'gort begins to believe that they need to intercede into everything and act in a superior manner. This happened on WBF and on Steve Hoffman. I cannot say I miss either of these forum...
Budget Amp for Sonus Faber
@asianatorizzle  Your speakers are more than capable of delineating the differences between amps..and your other upstream gear. If you pair them with a marginal amp/preamp, or a marginal sounding integrated, they will sound like what your upstream...
A blowing session????
@immatthewj  Yes, technically the sax is in the woodwind family. Although this classification is simply because it uses a wood reed, but when was the last time anyone saw a wooden sax?? Almost all of the ones I know of are made of brass.Which is e...
Budget Amp for Sonus Faber
I am not sure I understand why anyone would spend the $$ for a speaker that is of the calibre of the SF G Traditions...and then want to hobble them with an amp and ancillary gear ( sitting on a table??) that simply does not do them any justice???
A blowing session????
@jafant Thanks for the suggestions. I have just about every OG Blue Note produced. So, i am familiar with these folks works. My OP was wondering more along the lines if the particular genre at the time...mostly Bop, was pretty much a ’blowing se...
Suggestions for Giant Killer rca coax digital cable under $500 used
Try a Audioquest Carbon. Fairly inexpensive and a great bang for the buck. Also, very well represented, so pretty easy to source.
A blowing session????
@charles1dad  I totally agree that each musician has their own interpretation and style. No question. Not really what I was getting at in my OP though. More along the lines of the overall impression that one gets with listening to the genre. So, i...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
1st, no audio reproduction is perfect. I know my system is not perfect but my system is closest anyone can get in reproduction audio. @mihorn Your statement is a little presumptive, don’t you think? I heard your system at the last THE show; l...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@mihorn   You would not be hijacking my thread if your speakers are to be compared to much larger speakers. I do think videos on Youtube tells us next to nothing about the SQ of a system, although many folk seem to believe the opposite.
Audio Research D-115 MkII OR pair of M-100s?
OP, The question you ask is exactly what i looked into when I owned a D70Mk2. I was so impressed with this amp, that i was seriously interested in what the larger models would deliver.  The M100's, and I think if in good shape ( which applies to ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
I will compare to any audio system in the world. Please you show me any audio system’s live recording video sounds better than mine. Alex/Wavetouch audio Like phusis stated above, based on a video?? Even in a ’live room experience’, you cannot ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@unreceivedogma Your proviso makes sense. Room size and room tuning are important regardless of the size of the speaker. But it is indeed all relative. Which brings me to @phusis The point you seem to be making is that a big speaker can be made...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
@phusis I thought you did not care about speaker-room interaction because upstream you posted this:"brought on as the BS rationale of "fitting your speakers to the listening room size-wise." IMO, if you want to run too large a speaker into too ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
Alex, while I agree that @phusis point about small speakers sounding small. strained and much less natural in a variety of listening spaces is a very wide and somewhat incorrect statement, I do think we have to be fair to him. Your speakers, and ...
Jeff Rowland Aeries DAC comparison to current DACs
IMO, some of the best DAC's from 10-15 years back can still be very worth while acquiring. I think the price asked is the general decider, since some of the DAC's like you mention can now be had for a fraction of their original price, making them ...
