Your experience of moving to two subs
I dunno... I might not be popular here in this discussion, but oh well here goes:  I went for many years without a sub at all, with my Epi 100s...  never felt the need.  Have one now, though, and do like it, but it wouldn't be the end of the world...
Who turns center off when listening to music
no center, no surround.   indeed, I don't even use a center nor surround for movies or TV anymore.  two-channel works just fine w video... good enough speakers create a phantom center.
Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
@tomrk +1  "A lot of fun actually, but what struck me is that with few exceptions that price had nothing to do with the quality of the sound coming from the speakers." what you say has been my experience over 40 years of this audio hobby
Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
not only is it "possible" for "high end" manufacturers to overprice, it’s NORMAL... and hey, if it works to sell stuff, well, so be it: what the market will bear, right? some people are attracted to stuff ... "luxury" stuff ... exactly because i...

Compact Floor-standing Speaker Recommendations under $4k
@boostedis  I own Klipsch Heresy IV, and they are definitely not shouty.   They are rich, full, and dynamic even at low listening levels.

What is the proper loudness for listening?
optimal level totally depends on the situation... including other people in the room, your purpose, time of day, are you engaged in other activities, etc. ... and depends on the speakers, etc., too. some speakers need to be "turned up" to come al...

I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system.......
@pdreher I agree for the most part and myself I own and love Epi 100 speakers and their little brothers Epi 50, with some updated parts from Human Speakers. So, as I don’t know the Altecs in question, I don’t necessarily assume that new speakers...
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system.......
I found that inexpensive new amps are much better than "vintage" amps...  how about a new integrated from Anthem, or Arcam, or Marantz?   These days, you don't have to spend a fortune to get excellent sound, fortunately.  You can spend 18k if yo...
Is a home theater even worth it or doable?
I dunno... two channel is sufficient for me, with my Klipsch Heresy IV speakers which project the sound out through the room.  I also had excellent results with an old pair of Pinnacle AC850, and with my trusty Epi 100.  I also think a high qualit...
Does anybody pay a pro to dial their system in?
Just a question: is it possible that with the carpet and the drapery that you have too much sound dampening in the room, thereby deadening the sound?
