Russian Tube Preamp, No Return, Here I go again
I purchased an LCR phono stage from a guy in Russia on the advice of a member here. He built it pretty quick but it did take nearly two months for me to receive it after it was shipped. Given what I paid for it, the unit is quite good. You don't h...
Single driver speakers. Are they worth considering ?
For fun I bought a pair of Audio Nirvana Classic 8 Neodynium drivers and built the recommended enclosure for them. A pretty simple project that yielded results that were much better than I expected. I listen to them quite often when I'm working in...
The guru on fuses:
We're pretty lucky in that John Curl is a member of our local audio society and he regularly attends our Friday Zoom Happy Hours. After most of the crowd breaks for dinner we have the Happy Hour after party where John gets a bit more involved in t...
Atma-Sphere Owners, MP-3 Upgrade
@gdnrbob, the S-30 was purchased used and had the Caddock resistor upgrade already, so was not able to compare.
Atma-Sphere Owners, MP-3 Upgrade
The resistors are made to Ralph's specifications so they are not your off the shelf Caddock resistors. I think the price reflects that. I had them in my S-30, but my M-60s do not have them.
Question on Soundsmith carts
He is not always easy to get a hold of as he is very busy, but if you do get to speak to him you will readily acknowledge it was worth the effort.
Best Digital Music Server
I would agree with @mike_in_nc . I also own an Auralic G1 (as well as the DCS Network Bridge) and have previously used their Aries streamer. The wifi capability makes it very convenient for me and it has all the streaming options I want. Their Li...

Ayre Codex and Output Transformer
@tvad, what is the benefit of the flying ground wire?I have been using the Jensen Isomax units for years and they work well. Very transparent and wide bandwidth. However, before buying you should contact Jensen (or read the online manual for the p...
Acoustat Electrostatic spearkers
He designed and built a replacement, but unless you already own a pair that is academic; Roger left none behind when he died in late 2019.Actually he did leave one behind. It was his personal unit and it's sitting in my living room. This one was ...
Apogee Acoustics repair Is it a waste of money to rebuild a pair of Duetta Signature's
I had considered rebuilding Apogee Duettas at one time and if they are still around True Sound Works will do a great job rebuilding the speakers, but it will cost you plenty. I eventually ended up with Analysis Audio speakers.
16 ohm speakers: any amp sounds better with more resolution. speaker cables less critical.
@rauliruegas, thanks for that information on your crossover. A very elegant solution.
16 ohm speakers: any amp sounds better with more resolution. speaker cables less critical.
Ralph, I am about to find out :-) I already know the results will be thunderous. As for a quality goes, if they are as good as the Acoustats I will be happy. If they are better then....I guess I'll jump for joy? @mijostyn, for the investment you...
16 ohm speakers: any amp sounds better with more resolution. speaker cables less critical.
Roger Modjeski always recommended "light loading" his amps and gave numerous reasons why this was beneficial. Some were mentioned by @atmasphere in a previous post. On a pair of 8 ohm speakers I run my RM10 off the 4 ohm tap. The difference is ver...
LCR phono stages we know about
Just wanted to report back to say I finally received my Ampearl RE2030 LCR phono. The shipping took nearly 2 months to get here but after a couple weeks in my system it sounds very nice and it is very quiet as well. Quite a surprise for $800. I up...
