Stereophile's 2021 products of the year
But George, what about the fact that every year there are at least a decent handful of components that don’t measure very well but are subjectively loved by the reviewer and they get put into the class A category? What are we totake from that?
Soft, smooth organic SS integrated amps?
My Croft Phono Integrated certainly fits that description and is a steal at under 2k new. If you can do without a remote it is the definition of organic sounding but still with PRAT.

I was more curious about the fact that the Marantz 30 integrated made it to their class A list at $2499 - this is a class D integrated without gan fet technology...maybe there’s something special about it or is this just a Marantz loving reviewer....
Speaker Suggestions/Opinions
I think with your specific wish list you are on the right track with the Dynaudio Special 40. If I didn't have my Harbeth C7es3’s or wanted a more modern aesthetic those would be at the top of the list. As it’s is, my Harbeths and Croft amp make b...
USB sucks
I noticed a significant upgrade in clarity going from Usb DACs in the 1-2k range to a dedicated streamer/dac with Ethernet in and I was using a well regarded usb reclocker etc. The other thing I did was add an Ethernet extender so there is no phys...
Lumin D2
I bought a Lumin D2 last week from Audio Doctor based partially on this and other threads and just talking to Dave, who was very helpful. I can’t really express how much I love this unit, it sounds amazing in my minimalist system, which now consis...
TEAC NT-505 FUNCTIONAL REVIEW
I’m interested in this unit. Have you compared it sonically to any stand-alone DACs in that price range?
Salk Song 3A or Song 3 BeAT?
reggyI ended up going a completely different direction ultimately, but I was able to audition the Song 3A at an owners house, using my integrated. They are very nice speakers with a very very clean, detailed and pretty dimensional sound. Bass is s...
Eliminate USB from the chain?
The simaudio stuff is pretty great I have to say.
Eliminate USB from the chain?
But I would also reiterate that no matter how good the noise/jitter rejection is of a USB implementation in a DAC or streamer, they still seem to almost always respond positively to re-clocking/regeneration etc with an external device. USB can't b...
Eliminate USB from the chain?
thanks for the response. It’s not really about ethernet vs USB per se as streaming setups will either have both (ethernet into a streamer and USB to the DAC) or just 1 (ethernet directly into a streaming device/DAC.) So it’s more about one etherne...
Why no Class D integrated love? (from manufacturers)
Off topic, but I borrowed a Naim UnityQute2 over the weekend that I ended up really enjoying with my Harbeths. I get the Naim/Harbeth love now, even with an entry level unit no longer in production. One thing I noticed when A/B’ing with my setup is...
Why no Class D integrated love? (from manufacturers)
I heard the Bel Canto black dac and amp today briefly with t+a speakers and was surprised at the warmth and natural tone. Very nice musical gear.
Why no Class D integrated love? (from manufacturers)
Mapmanthat seems like a solid deal. Never heard any Bel Canto. Are there true analog inputs or does it run everything through the dac? Also, if you tell me that it compares well with the Parasound, it will get lots of love.i would put it on the li...
Why no Class D integrated love? (from manufacturers)
2channel8I have not heard the I32 yet, however I have heard the I25 and I35 In 2 separate systems that are not my own. The I35 is at the same shop as the HINT but in a different system. I’m very familiar with the HINT at this point and I find it t...
