Non fatigueing speaker under 1500
You should give Pat Mcginty a call at Meadowlark. He just starting shipping the new Osprey. Ask him what's next. He has to be introducing a new speaker priced somewhere between the Swift and Osprey, so you may find yest another option. He's on a r...
Non fatigueing speaker under 1500
Hey Gooddomino-- I would say that the Swifts and ProAcs are your best choices. The Swifts represent a great option but can be amp selective. The better the amp, the sweeter they are. I have not heard the combibnation that you mentioned, but the Ro...
Amp upgrade +or- 1,000
I second the McCormack route. You can pick up a .5 delux and have a few dollars left to consider upgrades. The other option is a good used integrated. Read and talk to as many people as you can then treat yourself to a day of listening. Good luck.
Electrocompaniet EMC-1 Spare Parts
The current distributor is the best they have had in their 20+ years in the US. It is nice to see that they have been able to break the old barriers. Good luck and happy listening.
Non fatigueing speaker under 1500
I believe that you do not need to spend 3K+ on good, non-fatiqueing speaker, especially monitors. At the under 1500 price point, the best options have been mentioned. Maggies are not fatiqueing, but you need to consider your room and cables. The S...
Volume Control?
All of the options above are good and sound good. Your ears will need to be the final judge. However, if you are somewhat handy, maybe a little adventurous and looking for a somewhat permanent solution, you can hardwire a Goldpoint Mini-V Stepped ...
Electrocompaniet EMC-1 Spare Parts
The US distributor should go back to Norway and tell them that he needs the spare parts. This is a classic problem with foreign manufactures and Electro has always been slow on the uptake on this matter. Since their US representative is also slow ...
advice on integrated amp
I know Meadowlark very well and used to be a dyed-in-the-wool integrated person. You have some good options above. The better the integrated the more the Meadowlarks will open up, so go the extra few dollars if you need to and can. Almost any of t...
New Swifts vs. used Kestrel Hot Rods
Respone #2: There was a thread in 8-26 about Meadowlark. Good feedback on the hot rods. Sound like it will be up to your ears, room and space. Swifts are front ported so you have more placement options. Good luck.
New Swifts vs. used Kestrel Hot Rods
I have heard them against Kestrel, not the hot rod. I offer the following. The Swift is more accurate and faster than the Kestrel. Midrange is sweeter and the high-end maybe more open (I am allowing for my room here). It does not have the softenin...
New Meadowlark Swallow monitor
The Swifts and Swallows are as good as every review you have heard. I have Verios and took them over the Kestrels. I have lived with all them in my home for some period of time. The Verios are more accurate and musical and placement is not an issu...
Small monitors for a dear aunt
The Meadowlark Swallows. No contest on price versus sound. This is a shocking and great little monitor. Front ported so they can go into a bookcase without hurting sound. Will work with any amp.
Conrad Johnson Premier 3A = Dry sound?? Opinions please
You cannot really tell how old the tubes are, so that should be the starting point. If you are using the same interconnects as your old SS amp, you may want to reconsider chaning those. But, before you do anything, call Knut at CJ service. He is t...
Budget speaker wire B&W 803 from Classe CA101
Stan Warren has been experimenting with wires. His daughter is now making them. The price is very realistic (I think $80 for a pair of 8 footers) with exceptional sound. Give him a call.
What Rags carry the most review weight???
I agree with what has been said above. The mags all have their perspectives and if you read them long enough you can kind of predict their review. Agon has great advice and there are lots of threads on integrated amps. But, to repeat the most impo...
