Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
It might be interesting to see what the members here would like to see in future reviews. The first thing I look for in any loudspeaker review is some mention of its ability to make the distinction between the timbre of different musical instrume...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
@kirk9  It has been years on the making but it would now appear as if the revolution in audio for decades is soon about to happen right under our noses. To think that we might soon be able to experience some of the spatial audio sensations Dr Ch...
Vibration isolation or absorption?
@jumia  Is vibration a two-way street? So you have vibration from a speaker cabinet, but don't you also have vibration due to the sound waves bouncing around the room where the floor will vibrate and that vibration will transfer back into the sp...
Vibration isolation or absorption?
@jumia  So don’t you want to draw that vibration away and channel it somehow into a bottomless pit. Shouldn’t the pointy things, aKA spikes, funnel the vibration onto A disc pucky thing that will make the vibration go away. Why would you want to...
Vibration isolation or absorption?
Spikes do not isolate, they couple. Back in the 1970s and earlier, loudspeakers were often fitted with rubber feet that sensibly decoupled them to a degree from the surface they were placed upon. Then, some time in the 1980s some reviewers began...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
There are some who believe that even with the very best of recordings, the best loudspeakers with the quietest cabinets, the best rooms acoustically speaking, 2 channel audio is at best only able to give limited amount of realism/soundstage depth....
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
@bipod72 Bass you could feel deep inside your guts.   Yes, it’s quite shocking when you first experience it. I’m too much of a coward to enjoy it, I couldn’t bear to damage my hearing. Music matters far too much to me. The only times I have ...
Perfect Pop Songs
@tylermunns  Good recommendations. I'll have to check out 'Two for the Road' if it's on Amazon Music this Thursday.   As for 'Moon River', I love that acoustic version performed by Audrey Hepburn. It's as good as it gets.
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
@alexberger Some legendary vintage speakers produce sound stage depth very well. Quad ESL57, Tannoy coaxial speakers from 50x-70x.   Well, yes but only with the right well recorded music. It was the almost 3D imagery of the Quad Electrostati...
Perfect Pop Songs
It's always great to stumble upon a great new recording. Sometimes it can happen in the most unlikely of places, a fairly recent Disney movie.   I See the Light - Mandy Moore and Zachary Levy (Tangled OST)
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
Since 99.99% of commercial recordings were made with little or no consideration for sound quality, let alone soundstage depth, it could be considered more than a little irresponsible to advocate upgrading in pursuit of this elusive soundstage dept...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth?
@mihorn  Good post. I'd like to also add that the way modern recordings are made, ie assembled together rather than the capturing of a musical event in real time, is not going to help create any convincing impression of soundstage depth either.
Equipment Rack Between Speakers...Good or Bad
So, for those of us who don't want to move furniture around just for fun or experiment, what's best? No furniture between speakers to preserve image or some furniture in-between to break up standing waves?
Pro-ject vs Rega
@quintell  Try to save for something a little better. You'll be looking for an upgrade pretty soon if you get either of these decks. A used Rega P8 would be awesome and you may find you never need to upgrade.
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers?
An exposed loudspeaker dome is asking for it. Especially when its a tweeter. At the very least it’s being provocative. Pushing buttons is something we’re all brought up to do. A difficult habit to resist for most non audiophiles. I’ve even he...
