Best short-lived band?
Blind Faith, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and last, but certainly not least, Rick and the Raiders for that beloved classic, Hang on Sloopy! After all, one can hardly call tBDBitL from tOSU a short lived band. Oops, maybe I'm posting this on the wrong ...
Movies that featured High End equipment
Its been mentioned several times but first place has to go to A Clockwork Orange. What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got, say, pitiful, portable picnic players. Come with Uncle Alex and hear all nice and...
Chamber Music - your best pick.
The Shostakovich quartets are among my favorites too. Try the St Lawrence Quartet recording of 3,7,&8. Outstanding! I also really enjoy the Klenke Quartett recordings of the late Mozart Quartets are very worthwhile. Finally, the Beethoven pian...
Anything about ADS L990 Speakers?
The A/D/S line of speakers was pretty good up until they started in with M series. Stay away from those. What I have seen recently is what appears to be an insane increase in used prices over the last 6 months or so. People who buy now are probabl...
Polarity issue
Your meter should be equipped to test continuity. Touch a spade at one end of the anticable with the black lead and a spade at the other end of of the anti cabel with the red lead. If it beeps, you have it, if it is silent, try the other spade.
Adcom monster amps
I've owned two Adcom amps. For two channel, I'd suggest you give some thought to the older McCormacks. Much, much, better sounding overall, and very conservative power ratings. I found the 100 W/channel DNA 0.5 seemed to have much more guts than t...
cello music
Csmithbarc,Try the Beethoven Complete Music for Piano and Cello, Schiff and Perenyi, ECM 1819/20 Wonderful music, recordings, and performances! I like these even better than the Ma/Ax recordings. Also check out Alban Gerhardt's website. You will b...
Difficult Sopranos
Johnstassi,I have literally felt your pain. Another audiogon member described this experience as akin to having ice picks stuck through one's ear drums. In my opinion, it is likely that this is due to multiple factors resulting in an inappropriate...
CDP build quality
I have had a total of three players since 1985. All retailed for under 1K. I sold the first after 4 yrs and bought a Denon 1520 in 1989. It still works. In 2000 I bought a Denon 1650 AR which I am currently using as a transport. The Denons had a g...
any mods to denon 1650ar player?
Phasecorrect,I also own a 1650-AR. If I were to list its strengths and weaknesses as a stand alone player, I would say that the player is extremely detailed and has pretty good bass, but is deficient in imaging. So my experience with this player i...
power cord too short? what now?
Beemer,Will the Ronco Cable Stretcher negate the benefits of cryo treating the power chord?
Audiophile Classical cds?
Nikturner920,The Kempe R. Strauss recordings on Brilliant are wonderful conductions. Recording quality is good for the time. The Jochum Bruckner and the Barshai Shostakovich, both also on Brilliant, are also really great. All three of these sets a...
Audiophile Classical cds?
Brahms String Sextet op 18 in B flat major, by the Leipziger Quartet (+ an additional violist and cellist) on Dabringhaus und Grimm (MDG). This is truly wonderful music and is a gorgeous recording. As an aside, I have found the MDG label produces ...
speaker cable suggestion for Magnepans
I'm using Signal Silvers (single biwire)with my 1.6's. Very smooth, no grain, really allows the nice tight Maggie base to shine in my system. You could probably get these new at close to the upper end of your price range and give them a try.
Signal Cable -- High End Generic?
I'm using the Signal Silvers throughout my system. Very good reasonably priced stuff.http://www.signalcable.com/
