Small speaker, big room, looks great
The EQ is more than I need. Lyngdorf has a terrific bass management system with RoomPerfect. Maybe better to focus on those fancy tweeters, though budget is indeed a concern.

Tom - Thanks! The Vandersteens are very interesting for sure. The sub is probably too big for us, and certainly too pricy. Would they pair reasonably well with something smaller? Also, I know it is a little tricky to compare vintage to contemporar...
Is it the amp or the wiring?
Ah, clever and quick check. I will swap the cables connecting the amp to to the in-wall wiring left for right and see what happens! More when the results are in  . . .
Is it the amp or the wiring?
Thanks all. I'll try different wiring. But the thing where turning it on and off again fixes it temporarily suggests that it is not a loose wire but something weirder, no?
Is it the amp or the wiring?
Oh yeah. Very solid connection.
Vintage Luxman L-450 crackle and hum
Hello all, I have an update and a question after one year. I took my Luxman L-450 to Jude at Pro Audio Repair in Crown Heights as recommended, and he was great. The unit sounds terrific now and is everything I could hope for. Except for one recurr...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
MrD. and Helomech, what's the best way to do the dampening? Has anyone posted detailed instructions? Seems like a worthwhile project!
Auralic Altair into Luxman L-450 settings?
Thanks Jond! The problem is, I want to use the volume control in the Altair, which I can control via Roon. It sounds like I should try to keep it as close to ax as possible though, like normal listening at 85 or 90.

I feared as much! Is there a go-to guy in the NYC area?
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Hi All -A quick update!First, thank you to everyone for the really helpful advice. This hobby is fun in large part because you are always learning something new, and I really learned a lot from this conversation. And yet — as is so often the case —...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Okay, I am thinking next step is to try a different amp. One thought: vintage Marantz, like a 1060. They are cheap, solid state but noted for their warmth, and they have tone controls. What do people think? And what would be some other options? (N...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Mofojo, for music I mostly listen to jazz or classic rock, some country and bluegrass. So acoustic instruments are priority one. So far, Pianos sound consistently bad. Acoustic guitars sound consistently good. Upright bass is anyone's guess, total...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
tls49, I'm using a Dragonfly red connected to a Macbook on Ethernet with a Roon server. The mini phone connection is obviously a major weak point, but my HRT Streamer with RCA connections sounds even worse. (The Dragonfly is a great little DAC.) B...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Atmasphere, the couch is soft. So far closer to me seems better than close to the walls, but I am finding that listening for prolonged periods changes my sense of these things! The differences are subtle, but in all positions the sound is fatiguin...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Dan, good idea about trying them without regard to WAF, just to see if they can ever be made to work. Will do. As for class D, I love the idea of it —especially the complicity and low cost — but what about that ineffable sense of aliveness? Do the...
