Review: In the Grove In the Grove Tweak
Aren't we talking about grooves and not groves? There was a pine grove behind my house when I was a kid. Maybe the sticky stuff on the roller is some kind of tree sap? Oh well....
Sonic Frontiers Line 3 Mod by Parts Connection?
I have a Line 2 SE that was fully upgraded by Chris Johnson at PCX about two years ago. The full set of controls of the Line 2 SE were always great, but I had found the sound to be somewhat dry and uninvolving. The PCX mod solved those issues and ...
PS Audio DL III DAC with Arcam DV78? Should I?
If you can afford $1700, talk with Rick Cullen of cullencircuits.com. His Stage 4 DL III is rather unbelievable. I've owned many DACs, but I feel there is no comparison to this one unless you get into high four figures and even then I'm not so sur...
Ohm Walsh 5-S3
Hi Jtwrace -- I've had the Walsh 5 Mk IIIs for a year and have been very, very pleased. My last speakers were the Vandy 3A Sigs. which are a very nice speaker, but the Ohms took me a few big steps further up the audio ladder. What surprised me most...
Best Speakers to Audition in the $5-10k range?
If you're willing to get off the beaten track a little, think about the Ohm Walsh 5 Mk III. I was fascinated by the unusual omnipolar design and thought the four month trial period was very generous. After several happy years with Vandy 3A Sigs I ...
OT: Windows XP Update Service Pack 1
I ordered the upgrade on disc from MSFT. Installation went fine and no problems. I too use a cable modem. I've been working with computers daily since the late seventies. Usually things go okay. Sometimes you're unlucky. I've used PCs as well as A...
Speaker Cable Feet: Suggestions?
Buy some doweling. Cut equal pieces about 10 or 12 inches. Bind three pieces together with a HEAVY rubber band about a third down from the top. Spread it out into a tripod. It will equal ceramic or any other material, IMHO! Plus, if you do it neat...
Cryogenics: accomplish what and work how?
As an easy, poor man's experiment, consider trying this: put some of your interconnects, power cords, and CDs into sealable plastic bags. Pop them into the freezer for about eight hours. Then put the bags into the refrigerator for about the same a...
Male Jazz singers - any recommendations?
Most of the greats have been mentioned -- Chazzbo has some good suggestions for you. One of the younger singers that hasn't been mentioned is Kevin Mahogany. Some of his covers, to my ears, are flat out great. Also, for you younger guys, if you wa...
I need to be wowed
Strongly second the Vandersteen suggestion. Every characteristic you're looking for is is a noted strength of the Vandy line. Including the famous black sock. Should really be at the very top of your list for auditioning.
Opinions on Wireworld Gold Eclipse III+
I have a one meter pair between my DAC (EVS M II) and my preamp (SF Line 2 SE) and I'm very pleased. I've been through an embarassing number of cables over the last few years and this is the only silver design that I'm completely happy with -- neu...
Best Amp for Vandy 3A's under 3000 Used?
I've had a few combinations with my 3A Sigs. and find my current set-up very satisfying. The preamp is a Sonic Frontiers Line 2 Special Edition and the amp is the Bel Canto 200.2. I've had much larger amps and was worried that the BC, with 125 wat...
Can anyone help me to decide which pre-amp is better ?
Lots of good suggestion here. You might also want to consider one of the new Sonic Frontiers Special Edition units, particularly Line 2 or Line 3. Very high value for the money, terrific sound, and good ergonimics with remote control.
Opinions on Wireworld Eqinox cables
I had a pair of Equinox III+ 10 ft. biwired cables. They were very neutral. Detail was well preserved. Bass was very well defined, but possible a tad lean. I now have a bi-wired set of Analysis Plus -- Oval 9 on the bottom and Silver Oval on top. ...
sonic frontiers line 2 owners
Did you get the Line 2 Special Edition? I have this pre and the break-in was extremely long. In my opinion, mine didn't really begin to sound "right" until I had two hundred hours of playing time. And, there were further improvments up to 400 - 50...
