Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
I suggest a Sonic Frontiers Line 1, 2 or 3 as a great place to start, maybe even finish. https://www.stereophile.com/tubepreamps/769/index.htmlAnd Parts Connecxion in Canada still services and repairs them.https://www.partsconnexion.com/

This guy was just asking what other gear marries well with a Berning ZH-270.Wild.
New Old Thiel CS6 Speakers--Too Harsh
HI All,When it comes to driving my new old CS6's, a Carver Signature Sunfire Load Invariant Amp (600w) is trouncing my CJ Premier 350.More bass, greater specificity in imaging, a bit more 'immediate' sounding and the harshness I was experiencing w...
New Old Thiel CS6 Speakers--Too Harsh
Thanks much for your post!I love CJ amps for their 'holographic' sound, but in my room i am always ending up with harshness. The last setup that worked great in my room were Infinty Kappa 8's powered by BAT VK 500 with batpak on lows and ZH-270 on ...

New Old Thiel CS6 Speakers--Too Harsh
My room is 14x17 and I have things setup lengthwise—speakers and gear are on the 14’ wall. Heavy, wall sized bookshelf full of vinyl and reel to reel tapes along the opposite wall. It’s got to be the room. I have been fighting this ‘listening fati...
Thiel Owners
i just purchased Thiel CS6's and yes i hear a huge difference when i flip the phase. I use my Sonic Frontiers Line 2 preamp to do this. I would guess its because the passive radiator is inherently our of phase with the rest of the signal. when th...
Could this be one reason tubes (and perhaps records) sound better?
Lose the vinyl and the CDs and listen to reel to reel tape. It’s all you need.
Could this be one reason tubes (and perhaps records) sound better?
We need to come up with agreed to standards, benchmarks, yardsticks. Not measurements only, but points of reference that we can agree on. Then we can explore together and come back with real improvements.
Vinyl / Digital / and can you have too much information.
I tend to agree with the original poster.  I think quite often it’s not that things aremore optimized for human listening, but are more easily reproduced by all the electronics and physical interactions involved. A tweeter capable of producing fre...
I am Looking for That Elusive 3 Dimensional Room Filling Soundstage
And surround sound setups are nowhere near as good as reproducing well the 3D imaging information already available in good stereo recordings. Sooooo much more satisfying! Honestly once you get that ‘surround’ from stereo you’ll never look back. D...
I am Looking for That Elusive 3 Dimensional Room Filling Soundstage
You can get excellent 3D sound without major room treatments. A thick throw rug (even over existing carpeting) and a dense fabric covered couch and you should be good. If you want that holographic sound you need to not be afraid of some wall and c...

...and don’t chase 5.1. Good stereo is much better, once you get that holographic setup working. Feel free to message me.

...and take time finding the right room placement. Serious. All you need for seriously holographic presentation.
