Does an upgrade make sense?
@mahgister   It would be interesting to see what you could do fine-tuning this listening (or any listening) room.  Ever consider hiring out your services?
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
So many things to consider.  I agree that the listening room is important — I would love to try Magnapan speakers but my listening room is too small to give them the spacing they need to shine.  If you must use the listening room for more than jus...
They know we will pay anything they can think of
@frankmc195  I have learned here that price is an almost irrelevant consideration for a true audiophile.  Anytime anyone has questioned what they think is an absurdly high price for equipment, they typically get shouted down for daring to questio...
concrete (cinder) block tower with wood chopping block for turntable stand
Regarding appearance, you could paint the blocks to give a finished look.  I think it could look good.  But of course fit the blocks beforehand to see if you like them.  Good luck.
BEST CD TRANSPORT
I think equipment should be rated according to price ranges.  For those that cannot/will not spend top money on something, it could be most helpful to rate items according to price ranges — bang for bucks — rather than simply “best I ever heard”.
Schiit Audio feedback
That was great that Schiit did repairs in that situation at no charge — I don’t find that kind of customer service very often.  I own the Freya+ — don’t really have much to compare it to, but it seems like quality gear for a fair price.  I like th...
How rare is an audiophile
@asvjerry: Yeah, I know, I worked with staff that were about 90% female for 37 years. But I figured if they can kick men then I can kick too. Besides, what can they do to me now that I’m retired? I didn’t say that I dislike women, but rather that ...
Taylor Swift Concert Prices
I’m of the vintage that remembers fondly the concerts I went to back 50+  years ago, when tickets were less than $10.  Better yet, at my favorite local venue, I could     things like price are relative.  We grew up paying such-and-such and then th...
How rare is an audiophile
I miss the old days with women too!  So much less complicated and a lot less misinterpretation!  Alas!
How rare is an audiophile
Like a lot of things, audiophiles are not a homogenous group. It reminds me of that old saying, “One person’s ceiling is another person’s floor.” There are people (like me) that fancy themselves audiophiles that “real audiophiles” would not. Part ...
Question about wpc on tube amps
I have wondered about this too.  I was watching an audio reviewer on YouTube and he mentioned an apparently highly-regarded tube amp that produced all of 2 watts per channel.  How can 2 measly watts suffice to play even sensitive speakers to 85 de...
Chicago 1967 - 2023
@johnto, I had the same albums and agree the later stuff lost me.  I read that a new producer in the ‘80’s deemphasized the horns and had them playing more ballads.  I suppose after 50-some years and changes in personnel there would be some change...
Storage boxes. Can I discard high end shipping boxes, and still sell in the future?
I have kept original packaging for all my equipment except, as someone already stated, those things that cost less than $500.  I don’t have room in my house (not even in my “junk room”), but I have a one car garage and I put the boxes out there.  ...
Prospectives on Chi-Fi
wolfie, my sentiments exactly.  China is eating our (US) lunch and we cooperate.  I wish more Americans would wake up (not WOKE) and realize the CCP is not a friend to any off us.  I don’t buy Chinese audio products, though everything is made in ...
un-becoming an audiophile
I have come to the conclusion that I am never going to be an “audiophile” in the sense that many others on this forum are.  I set a budget of “good enough . . . certainly better than anything I’ve ever had before”.  I’m not going to keep auditioni...
