Would you buy speakers with out first listening ?
Six of the last seven speakers ... purchased w/o auditioning ... loved every one of them; the only speaker I auditioned ... Martin-Logans ... loved them thoroughly; the speaker I plan to keep ... despite not having auditioned them first ... the mo...
Expectations low, listening pleasure high.
Clearly, at least to me, we are simply talking about the subjective factor, which is no small consideration. When I'm desperate to upgrade or feeling down because I can't afford another $3k or whatever, I put on some music I enjoy and accompany it...
My Yamamoto A-08s has arrived....Yay.
I don't need specific numbers, but is the A-08s selling at or close to MSRP? I take it that very few of these amps are finding their way to the USA. It'll be interesting to follow your updates on this amp. Brian of Venus very much liked the 08, an...
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking?
Absolutely ... Cain & Cain SuperAbbys w/Bailey sub ... with tube amplification ... the most thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying speakers I've ever owned in my 44 years of audio ...
Bias for Jadis DA-8
Can't answer your question, but I ran across the following info on a web posting (hometheaterhifi.com) dated March 2005: "Authorized repairs and upgrades for older Jadis units in the United States are available from Ron Cox in Colorado (970-882-25...
Pathos Classic One int.: So many for sale- Why ?
I owned a Pathos Classic One MkII for 6 months ... stunning design esthetics, great build quality, and it performed flawlessly. Too, they aren't overly expensive, though the III may list for more. I was very pleased, but I only needed 3-6 watts fo...
Taylo Reference Monitor sound signature
Several years ago I went from Taylo Refs to Linbrook monitors, too. I've gone in another direction, but if forced to choose between the Taylos and the Linbrooks, I'd go back to the Taylos. Both were wonderful speakers, absolutely no complaints, bu...
I just purchased from Ty
A recent TAS or Stereophile said Tyler's new high-sensitivity speakers were true winners ... and I've owned several of Ty's speakers, so I know that he puts out great product and even better service ... wait for them, set them up with your high-oc...
10 CDs Reviewed Add your own.
If you can find Suzanne Rhatigan's "To Hell with Love" (Imago 1992), buy it. A huge sound, like Janis Joplin ... but with real musical talent. Mix of jazz, rock, blues, and soul. Phenomenal. You'll wonder why this group never made it in the USA. A...
Best Jazz Albums
Audiotomb is right ... Chris Potter deserves both attention and recognition. Rather than name the same names, try Marcus Miller, and some of the Dulfer work is exquisite, too.
List of Floorstanders around $6500.00 NEW
Check out Cain&Cain speakers ... pure heaven when driven by tubes ...
Electrostats
Steverw: My only experience with stats was with Aerius biwires ... and they NEVER ceased to enthuse/amaze me ... just loved them, despite some weaknesses/negatives (related to stats in general). I remember them fondly.
Suggestions for a budget amp
The ONLY budget amp you will enjoy TOTALLY ... the Almarro A205A ... for about $650 or a bit more ... you will be SHOCKED as long as your speakers are 90dB sensitivity or higher ... you will be TOTALLY PLEASED
Best undiscovered speakers on the market today ?
Cain and Cain ... by far.
Unison Research Unico vs. Pathos Clasic MKII
Never owned a Unico, but last April-Sept '05 I owned a new Pathos Classic MKII for maybe 80 hours of play. Fantastic aesthetics, hard to match, and very pleased by the way it worked with my Cains and Shanling. Terry Cain suggested that running tub...
