Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Could it be that Keep it simple is indeed correct. Less preamplification on the MM's could be a reason for this thinking. However we've been down this road have we not?
High Mass Tonearms and Cartridge Matching
Hey Bob, what did you find for your Jelco?
bel canto pre 3 and rhea tube phono stage
I briefly used a Sonic Frontiers Phono 1 with my Bel Canto Pre 3 and no problems however I thought the Bel Canto phono sounded better.
Bookshelf Speakers with “Big” sound?
PMC LB1's are really nice. I have a pair that I've owned for about 6 months and were very reasonable to buy. They sound much larger than their stature suggests and can play quite loudly if you need to fill a larger room such as my own (25X14+). Qu...
PMC GB1"i" vs Totem Hawk
They were being powered by a 50watt Copland integrated when I heard them.I also heard the Totem Hawks and they were pretty good too.Now I am trying some Spendor 5se and they are VERY nice. In my room I've had to elevate them a few inches to get th...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie?
Is this the same setup they had for the 2008 CES? If so I can remember hearing it with my wife and honestly we thought it was one of the best sounds at the show. This system with chorale music was astounding and I believe that the Bryston went a lo...
Turntable in 20 K$ price range - Design & Music
The Brinkman's are beautifull tables that offer world class sound, but the VPI HRX is a stunner at half the price. There is no definitive audio perfection in this field so the question is do you want a work of engineering "art" or the last word in...
Bel Canto and.....?
I'm using a full BC system (less the DAC) and enjoy it quite a bit. My REF's are the original 1000 model and not the MK2.I sold a D250MK2 ARC amp to buy these and I think the purchase was neither a step up or down. I would say the ARC had better t...
Unipivot vs Linear Tracking
I've used an ET2 now for 11 years. In many ways it can still offer state of the art sound, and relatively inexpensively for those looking. I'm certain it has it's flaws, but I know I've mentioned elsewhere on these forums that I just can't be beat...
Anyone heard of JVC Victor SX-500 speakers?
ANYONE???
Switch to silver for a treble boost?
Carl, I tried a similar test to get a little more treble "air" and went with the popular silver Signal Cable. The results were less than stellar. I found the cables to be less transparent overall. I'm VERY skeptical of mega buck cable's and thier s...
"Budget" cable advice, please
I can recommend the Unico. It was truly excellent in my system driving some Proac 1.5's. Made my Classe gear sound broken (maybe it was).Signal Cable is working well in our phono rig. Great value.
Anyone switich to all Signal Cable wired system?
Interesting comments regarding RF noise. I found the Nordost Frey to pickup much more interference and the Signals to be dead quiet. Grounding the Freys helped but the Signal Silvers are still quieter.I believe this is why I've been feeling that t...
A question about the logic of interconnect cables
The question makes a good case for integrated systems, doesn't it??? Or better yet, powered DSP speakers with a digital interconnect to source.I have yet to see a manuf. offer an exotic power cord with their gear. I mean wouldn't they know what ma...
Power Conditioning and PC for Bel Canto Gear
I use Bel Canto with stock cords on the source components. I tried a heavier gua. cable with them and no difference. Also tried some ridiculously expensive Acoustic Zen and yup, you guessed it...no difference.Power amps gained a bit more energy wi...
