I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but.....
Lugnut, you are right. Thanks for jogging my brain. The reverse switch on my preamp has nothing to do with the phase. It only reverses the right and left channels. Now, my DAC does have an switch that will invert the phase. So, if it is as simple ...
I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but.....
Mdomnick, the phase invert on my preamp was set on reverse (for a reason). Sure enough, when I switched back to normal, the trumpet player on the Sting DVD, as mentioned above, came through the right speaker (which is correct). The reason I switch...
Best speaker cables for electrostatic speakers?
I have no experience with XLO or Magnan, although I've heard both are good cables. I owned Martin Logans for years and used Kimber 4tc, which is very affordable. I had excellent results. I used 4 runs per speaker. Two runs on the top and two on th...
I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but.....
Okay. I wish I hadn't asked that one! The more I think about it, the more I realize I knew the answer to my own dumb question (how many times has that happened?). I'm getting a little slower with age but, I'm sure I was sharp enough to hook the ri...
Totem Winds are Too Bright
Bi-wiring will with good cables will help with the bass response. However, I would guess you are under-powering your Totems. I auditioned the Forest's and found that 120/per side(SS)was about the minimum. I'm not that familiar with tube power amps...
Which amp for B&W 703s
I'm only familiar with Krell & CJ by reputation, but have not owned or listened to them. However, I own the 703's and power them with an older Audio Research SS (D-240). I utilize a Musical Design Tube preamp that has been tweaked (currently u...
Experience with B&W 703?
Well, I suppose I will chime in here for one last comment, and then let this thread die.I now have the 703's in my 2 channel system. I did notice that they were too harsh and bright right out of the box, but this was to be expected; the Kevlar use...
Speakers for loud listening. really loud...
Sean,You appear to be an intelligent person, so I know you must realize what those volume levels will eventually do to your hearing. I don't know how old you are, but at forty-three, I have already lost significant hearing in one of my ears. I att...
Experience with B&W 703?
Thank you skyhawk. I agree with you about the need for a long break-in for speakers, especially the 703. I did think that the dealer's demos were very forward and somewhat harsh sounding. But, then I listened to my co-worker's 703's which he's had...
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
There is no right answer here, only opinion - way too many greats and way too many styles. With that said, SRV stands out for me. He's gone now, I rarely listen to his music anymore - shame. But, at 43 years old, I too have seen many of the greats...
Experience with B&W 703?
Wow! Two very different assessments. I have heard that the 703's sound very forward and harsh until properlly broken-in. I sure hope this is the case, as I have few options. Thanks for the advice. 2chnlben
Double up on Kimber Kable 4TC??
behnegan, if you do some experimenting with double runs of 4tc please let me know what you find. I may want to "untwist" my pairs, but I don't want to have to disconnect and resolder the ends if the results are minimal. Interesting points raised a...
Double up on Kimber Kable 4TC??
behnegan, You're thinking the same thing I was. That's why I started the thread. I did twist each pair together, and then I twisted the two pairs together. Of course, this cannot be the same as the actual "twisting" method done during production a...
Double up on Kimber Kable 4TC??
Thanks for the response and excellent advise.cheers!
Can the Totem Hawk Rock?
Nrchy. VERY nice system!! I would love it. But, I am asking people to comment on "real-world" budget speakers! What I wanted to know, is, FOR THE MONEY (approx. $2,200) what are the best performing speakers. I think Totem, Thiel, Green Mountain, t...
