Break In Question?

I have been under the assumption that in order for a component to break in there must be a signal pass through from one piece of equipment to another. That is, running a Dac/Preamp into an amp, the amp must be turned on for the Dac/Preamp to break in.

But is this really true? Does the amp really need to be turned on?

Only mechanical things need some run-in to reach optimal performance. Electronics - no.

I doubt having the amp on is going to have too much effect. Although everything matters. Just leave the DAC on for a few days, or leave it on permanently.

I disagree with what Jason argues on electronics.

Thanks for the replies

noromance,

Thank you. I agree and will leave the Dac on playing break in music type files without the amps on.

Break in is a subjective phenomenon, as is much in this hobby.  If you think it’s real, I would leave everything on.  Who knows what interactions between components contribute to this phenomenon?

@ozzy

streamers and DACs are the easiest components to break in. Just have it streaming 24/7. Nothing else needs to be on.
