sounds good!
I will be able to listen to tannoy cheviot, Proac D2…as well as Wharfedale 85th Linton. probably even have a chance to place them in my room…they are only like 10 miles away so super excited !
@mcpherson by new tower speakers, are you talking about the BMR HT speakers? AMT drivers, dual woofers? They have been out for a while and by all accnts, they seem to be great. I have lots of experience with the regular BMR Towers. Owned them for 2 years. First thing first, they are exceptional for classical music. If this is your primary genre of music. You are in for a treat. There's a guy that compared the Phil BMR vs Revel 328Be and his experience reflects mine. Part 1. I'll continue with the negatives in part 2. |
This is part 2. If you are a beginner or intermediate listener, and want a pair of speakers that sound great. BMR is your guy. If you're an advanced listener, you know your preference, and you know what sounds good and what doesn't, then read on. The negatives about BMR towers. They are wide dispersion and interacts with the room a lot. You have to take care of your room treatments, especially true with these speakers. A rug on the floor is very important. Regarding amplification, this was very tricky in my experience. The speakers respond incredibly well to tubes. But maybe it's the nature of the Ribbon tweeter (RAAL) it needs a lot of power otherwise the treble will sound subdued. But getting a lot of clean power from tubes is a challenge in itself. If you get an amplifier that has more power than finesse. The midrange can sound dry, and it has a tendency to sound dry and a bit flat. Again, these negatives only apply to advanced listeners. FYI, these speakers were made and tuned using Val Alstine amplifiers. Never owned Van Alstine but they are great from what all that I've read. |
