Benchmark DAC-Pre's Little Brother?

I'm putting together a minimalist system for a small room, and trying to do so on a budget. If money were no object, I'd buy the latest Benchmark DAC / Pre, but since it is an object, am wondering if there is a cheaper alternative.

Minimum requirements are analog and digital inputs, source switching, DAC, volume control and remote.

Any ideas?

This is a little late (your post is from 2009), but these days you can find Benchmark DAC1 for around $300. Can’t get much lower than that for a quality DAC.
