AMT Tweeters integration

Hello,

I'm looking for a pair of floorstanding speakers in the $2500-4500 range. Since they will be driven by a 70-wpc integrated tube amplifier, my options are limited to efficient loudspeakers (ideally above 88db); additionally, I lean towards a musical-warm sound (Sonus Faber, Dynaudio).

Aside from Revival Audio and Dyaudio, most of the speakers I'm considering have AMT tweeters (Dali, Whafedale, etc.).

So, wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to compare both configurations (3-way regular drivers vs 3-way regular drivers plus AMT tweeter).

My main concern is that, at this price range, the integration of the AMT tweeter with the other drivers might not be well executed, and that the overall sound presentation may be perceived as if there were two pairs of separate speakers, one pair doing the low and mid frequencies and a second pair doing the high frequency.

Please let me know your thoughts, much appreciated it,

Thanks,

Brand new ESS AMTs are often of sale for $250/pr including the mounting hardware.

I’ve made several modifications to mine, but they now sing like no others.  There is no eq or room correction, either electronic or physical, being used here and the room is quite large.   The ESS AMTs are very efficient, but like high current.

Hey, just on a technical note, the issue with AMT’s IMHO isn’t always integration but quality of the AMT.  Sometimes it is integration, but the truth is that like other types of drivers, there are really stellar AMTs and there are some I can’t bear to listen to.

Mundorf makes a range which I think are just as easy/difficult to integrate as any other driver, but they have one model in particular that really needs to be "hammered into compliance."

At the end of the day though your ears will tell you everything you need to know about whether a particular model is worth your hard earned coin or not.

2 way speaker is easy to balance between drivers. Below is my 2 way speaker with AMT. Alex/Wavetouch audio

The amt tweeters are so popular for a reason most go higher than 20 k hz are light because momentum is mass x velocity.they have such a light diaphragm they start and stop fast and very responsive.they don't have as high as spl. I like them took a bunch of heil ess crossed them over at 800 hz stacked them on 1/4inch steel threaded rod 5 feet in length and have a great line array.they do go on sale with mounting kit 250 for 2. I love ribbons and line arrays and have several.they aren't hard to integrate into cone speakers.major brands are using ribbons and charging alot. Enjoy the hunt.
