Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

Thinking about ordering the Moabs. I'am having a vintage Sansui AU-9900 completely restored by the Sansui experts at QRX in Oregon. My question is if 80 watts RMS enough to comfortably drive the Moabs?
The room is 14X16 with 12ft ceilings.  Regards, David
domimax7,  I don't think anyone here would disagree with YES.  The Moab specification is 98db sensitivity at 2.83v.  So 1 watt if you get the 8 ohm version or 2 watts with a 4 ohm version.  Basically unless you're trying to damage your hearing 80 quality watts is good enough.

I think I'll test this later and see how much power draw at the wall I see while playing at 98db. That's way louder than I ever care to listen at home (or anywhere really).
domimax,

Moabs are specified as being quite sensitive so your 80 watts should be plenty for your room and then some.

Looking at dimensions of your room, make sure that Moabs will not overwhelm it aesthetically. They are large speakers.
We laugh our asses off at how tall they are.  I mean we knew that before hand, but once you get them in front of you, its another story.  They are narrower than the MMG on top of subs they're replacing, but I think they're 17" deep.

Your room is shorter than mine by about 8 ft, but much taller, so not having them so close to the ceiling might help aesthetically.

I got lucky, my wife was totally like "GET THOSE".  I would not have had such luck with my first wife (last time I'll bring that up, bad juju).

Your post reminds me that I have a really nice (pricy for its time) McIntosh receiver that had a nice full sound to it and did the detail thing (to what extent I don't remember) which needs some restoring.  I wonder how that would sound with the Moabs.

glupson6 commented on aesthetics regarding room dimensions, but also what about room treatment?  That size room would need some treatment for nodes so things don't get too boomy, no?  Most rooms need some treatment to a degree, but he's almost in a cube.  I've had to deal with a 13x13x10 for a short while and it wasn't fun.
