Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

nwres,

While I have (I hope) a little bit of your attention and while (I think) you have Moabs, can you comment on their sound with and without grilles? If you have them, of course.

Appearance of these speakers is not to everyone’s taste and may be a dealbreaker, but some may find it acceptable with grilles on. A good and honest comparison of their sound with and without grilles might help potential buyers make as informed of a decision as possible.

There is probably a number of interested potential buyers lurking around this thread. Let’s help them with what may matter to them. Most of them will not put springs and what not, but they may need to go for grilles.

I can probably do nothing to disuade you from thinking it was a diabolical plan.
Just busting your balls. I appreciate your honesty.

I do not own Moabs but another model. I have found that my Tektons do sound slightly better with the grills off. And I have found that to be the case with most other speakers I have owned.

raysmtb1 I did get the outriggers as well. Not here yet. Working on a plan to integrate the two. I have 4 spring pods per speaker. The manufacturer states that each pod is good for 25Kg or about 55lb. And one reviewer thought it was good for at least 40lb per his scale, so I think 4 should be good for almost any speaker.
raysmtb1  I agree, those mag lev devices look very interesting. I was reading their site, not sure that the weight the mag system can support is enough for Moabs though?
