Youtube, the new radio?

Marketplace on NPR had a piece yesterday about youtube metrics becoming a main factor for determining hit songs, replacing the traditional role of radio.

Seems like a good thing to me. People should have more direct say now in what becomes a hit based on popularity, with radio stations and their corporate owners having less influence on these things by deciding up front what gets airplay or not.

What do y'all think?

the website is a pain to bother with and I have no desire to see the videos in most cases otherwise I like the idea of peoples views being counted
I like how Youtube is setup ,and have spent many enjoyable hours watching videos. There is a boatload of real crappy videos, but also some very good ones.Old TVshows ,music, how to.It has its flaws but I like it.Also gives a lot of talented and ,,not so talented people the chance to be seen and heard. And it gets many videos that are of interest to folks that would not have a chance to see them if not for Utube!Viva Utube!
Technology driving us to a better, more democratic place. To a large (tho surely not 100%) degree, the taste making elite gets left behind. I'm all for that.
I heard that too Mapman. I think it's great. As the one person said during that story, Id be dumfounded to not be able to find an artist on there. A serious artist has to have a Youtube presence or they're not going to make it in this world. I've found a ton of live performances of some of my favorite musicians on YouTube. It streams perfectly very well on my iPad Mini, which is practically an extension of my arm when I'm home.
I like to watch world war two documentaries on youtube. Stuff you will never see anywhere else. Some made in the Soviet Union for example.

Cheers
I bought an after market brass bearing kit for my hand crank coffee grinder and the instructions were "see Youtube video". The best directions I've ever seen was someone actually doing it.
Most anything you could need is on ytube, comedy, music, how to, education, history. Its a great tool. I go there weekly to sample music before I buy, it is also a great tool to view local live acts to see who is who and worth seeing!
For education and entertainment, it's off the charts.

Everything, it seems, is there. I almost feel as if a video of my fingers typing this sentence will be on youtube tomorrow.

And, it's free (if you're already online). Can't beat it!
