Wyred DACS

They released the final specs for their DACs last week. Shipping this month. Anybody order? The DAC-1 is quite reasonable, but not upgradable to the asynch-USB, which the DAC-2 has. The DAC-2 also has the I2S but I don't know what it's gonna connect to.

Thank you Paul for sharing that with us. I think there is a good chance that I can find a Bryston dealer not to far from home. I will check them out.

Thanks again.
Hi Bill,

I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the Tranquility Dac. Have you ever spent time with the Bryston Dac?

Thanks,

Neal,

I was wondering if you received your DAC2 yet and what you think of it?

I am supposed to receive delivery of my DAC2 today and will audition it over the next few days and report on my findings. I have had a number of CDP's and DAC's over the years and so feel that I will be able to tell if this is a quantum leap, an incremental improvement or just more of the same in a value package.

Thanks Neal,

I'm sure we are all looking forward to hear what you have to say about it, whether it's good or bad.

"06-29-10: Face
I have about 20 hours on my DAC-2, waiting until I get some more hours on it before writing a review on the unit. I will also have access to a DAC-1 to compare it to."

So Face, did you have a chance to compare yours to the DAC-1 yet? How do you like the DAC-2 so far?

I'm surprised that with as much hype that this DAC-2 product has received, that we haven't heard much in the way of accolades in how it sounds. People keep talking about its features, but not much yet about the actual sound. People must be buying them if they are continuously on back order, but yet we only read a couple brief comments about the sound. Is it possible that it isn't living up to people's expectations? Just wondering.
Paul,

I'm curious as to if you have used the USB input on the Bryston DAC? If so, how do you think it performs via the USB.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the comparison with the Tranquility Dac.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone has compared either of these with the Havana?
"The Havana sounds bloated in comparison."

What do you mean by that exactly? Could you expand on this a little?

Thank you.
Hi Bill,

I was wondering if you have had an opportunity to audition the Tranquility Dac as of yet? You originally thought you might receive it back on the 18th.
Hi Paul,

I know what you mean. What other dac are you considering? Will you be using the usb input?

Thanks,

Bill, when do you think you will be comparing to the Tranquility Dac? I would think that would be an interesting comparison.
Hi Paul,

Thanks for the response. I am primarily a vinyl guy, however there are times when I am putzing around the house that I like to have music on in the background. That is when I toss on a CD or more often then not, Pandora Internet radio from my laptop. I realize it is not the best fidelity, but I find it a great source to discover new recordings that I may not be aware of.

So, in an attempt to try to kick up the fidelity of the Pandora, I'd like to find a good sounding USB Dac. All of my gear is vacuum tubed (tuner, pre, amps, etc) and I listen to vocals, jazz, classical, and acoustic types of music.

I've been trying to find out more about the sound of the Wyred Dacs, Havanas, Tranquility, and now Bryston to determine which might be the best way to go.

I appreciate your comments as well as the others on the forum.

Best regards,

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the quick update! Looking forward to hearing more from your "serious evaluation".

What is it about using windows that makes it far from optimum? If I were to get this, I'd be using it with my laptop which is Windows Vista Home Premium....would this not be compatible or not recommended?

Thanks
