Why So Many Raidho Speaker For Sale?

If Raidho speakers are so great, why are there so many pairs for sale here?  These are not inexpensive speakers by any means and it seems at least every other day there is a pair for sale with some people having them only a few weeks to a few months, and they are really taking a bath on them.  What gives?  Are they not as great as they are made to be?  Is Jonathan Valin a shill for the company?

I heard the 4.1 diamond at Blink High End north of Boston and was very unimpressed.  I have heard many other highly regarded speakers for much less money sounding wonderful.  So, what gives?

I really don't think so, I mean you spend upwards of 40 grand on speakers and then sell them for 40% less than you paid weeks or months later?  Besides, Raidho has a program to upgrade your current speakers to the newer ones for far less money than selling at a loss and buying new again.  I'm not buying it.
Never heard those, but the 4.1 diamonds were nothing special.  I would take a lower end Rockport any day over them.  I still can't see why there are so many for sale.  The same goes for Scansonic which is a poor mans Raidho.
All the stores I frequent charge retail and on some occasions a 10% discount.  Why would a dealer give a customer a salesman's accommodation which is 40 to50% off of retail?  When I worked in audio, I could get a salesmans acomidation on a product that was cheaper than what the company paid for it in bulk ordering.  The stores wouldn't stay in business very long if they did that.

Czarivey,

May I suggest you stop hijacking my thread with your Political crap?  Grow up already.

There was nothing political in this thread I started about Raidho Speakers.  Why did you put your 2 cents in with political inuendos, questioning my sense of humor and IQ?  Sour grapes perhaps for the other thread?

"Perhaps they're similar to most US presidents that promised a lot during campaign... :-)"

Does this ring a bell?

I don't believe their cabinets are made in China,  I believe it's Denmark.     I'm not a fan of the Raidho or Magico speakers from what I have heard, but Rockport is another story.   Someday I would love to own a pair of Aviors.   I've been to the Rockport factory, it's nothing short of amazing.
For the money they charge, the cabinets should be made in Denmark.  Granted my GE Triton1 are made in China but we are talking a 5K pair of speakers, not a 5 figure set of speakers.
I said it already, Infection... please go infect another thread and leave this one alone.  I never heard the D5's and any Solution products, but for that kind of money, they had better sound great.  Everyone likes different things but the Raidho definitely are not my kind of speakers, especially since I listen to 90% rock.  It's waaaaaay out of my price range besides all that.  Doubtful my wife would like the idea of spending that kind of money for speakers and electronics that cost more than our home.  It's hard to wrap your head around how much disposable income some people really have.
Infection, your thread was politically oriented, perhaps tongue in cheek, but still politically oriented.   This is a REAL discussion about REAL audio products so I ask you one last time to take your Infection elsewhere.  If you continue, you show us just what kind of man or child you really are.
I don't have a problem with anything made in China.  My speakers are made there and that is why they were affordable enough that I could purchase them.  I truly thought the cabinets of the Raidhos were made in Denmark as they were absolutely gorgeous and like the finest furniture one could buy.  I'm just not in tune with their sound but that's why there is such a large range of speakers out there.

bo 1972,

That is the best explanation I have heard yet and one that I can completely agree with.  I find the same goes for Solution and CH amplifiers.  I see a lot for sale on Audiogon and most people never heard of them until Jonathan Valin and Robert Harley started singing praise in TAS.  So, whatever happened to Technical Brain that Valin swore by?  Not even in their recommended list anymore.

I thought it was the Raidho 4.1 I heard at Blink High End  but I guess it was the 5.  My apologies for the mix up on that.  It doesn't change my opinion as while I was listening I kept thinking what all the fuss was about.

I agree that a lot of equipment is overpriced, especially cables. There is no way in this world or another when a 2 meter piece of wire is worth 20K or more. Personally, I have always purchased cables used and spent perhaps 100-150.00 for each used pairs, same with speaker cables. You can easily get yesterdays great 500.00 cable for a hundred or so. I was in Goodwins last year and the salesman proudly showed me some MIT cables that were an insane amount of money, something like 40K! For that money, I would buy a nice new truck or a late model used Corvette. I laughed when the salesman showed them to me and he quickly lost interest. I left shortly thereafter and haven’t returned since.

It’s like my late father used to tell me, "there is an ass for every seat".

Please give it a rest already, this is getting old and boring and you have now hijacked my thread.  At 63 I don't need saving by anyone in the audio field and I doubt many of our members do either.  Please stop self promoting.

I did hear them at the open house at Blink.  I probably ran into you and didn't notice.  That's one of the problems with revealing speakers, it's hard to tell how much the electronics and source  come into play.  When I first posted and said the D series, I believe I was mistaken. I have seen a mix of all the series, not just the D.  I also have seen a lot of Scansonic (poor mans Raidho perhaps?) too.  Of course the Scansonic has no bearing on the Raidho.

I had been thinking in relatively small amounts of speakers sold in proportion to the ones for sale on Audiogon.  I wrongly assumed most couldn't or wouldn't purchase the really expensive ones due to high cost.   As much as I love music, I would never spend as much on a set of speakers than what I spent on our home.  Then again, there are some very wealthy people in the world and to them 225K is like 2,500.00 to  most of the rest of us.

So that's what Bo is touting.  I never cared for monitor audio speakers, way too bright IMHO.  I couldnt get past his self centered dribble to know what speakers he was talking about.   Is he a dealer for them?  If he is then he shouldn't be going on and on on this thread, he should start his own.

ricred1................

I never said I heard the new Monitor Audio speakers.  I have heard them over the years and always found them bright and not to my liking at all.  I have always preferred speakers with silk dome tweeters, that is until I got the GE Triton 1.  Those have been a revelation and are the most I would ever spend on a pair of speakers.

I do not have any home theater and only use the Triton 1 for music.  Both Stereophile and TAS reviewed the speakers in a stereo only music system and gave it rave reviews.  It is the best speaker I have heard for my musical tastes and is definitely a keeper.  I sold my Von Schweikert speakers after living with the Triton 1 for a few months.  I have also had Vandersteen (3 different ones), DeVore, Paradigm, and Odyssey Kismet speakers and nothing compares to the Triton 1.  I still have the Kismets as I will never part with them although I may loan them to my son.

Thanks for totally hijacking my thread even though I asked you nicely to stop.  This is now way off topic.  Why don't you start your own thread?

Please go promote yourself elsewhere in your own thread.  FWIW, I could care less about your thoughts on Audioquest or Nordost.  This was a thread about Raidho speakers and why there seemed to be a lot for sale used.  Your on and on dribble has totally worn me out.

I agree with analogluvr, I too have spent great amounts of money on a piece of equipment, only to find I don't like it.  Once I replaced everything in my system after buying a pair of speakers which everyone raved about, including us regular people.  I forced myself into thinking it was everything else and not the new speakers.  I was a bit naïve back then but not anymore.  Raidho isn't my cup of tea either, it may be ok for a small jazz ensemble or some classical, but certainly not for Pink Floyd or 70's rock or for prog rock.

Personally, I would never spend more than 5-6 grand on speakers or on any other equipment.  Don't get me started on cables, especially when certain pairs of cables can cost as much as a new Porsche!  I'll say this again, my late dad always said that "there's an ass for every seat".  That's especially true in our hobby.

altanpsx......................

What a terrific system you have.  Love the Rockports, you have quite excellent taste.   If the poster was serious, then he definitely owes you an apology.  I started this post, how did it turn to this?  Enjoy that great system, mine is quite modest compared to yours.

ctsooner............................

How are the new Vandersteen Speakers working out?

ctsooner.................

Let us know when you get them and your observations. I want to upgrade from my GE Triton Ones to the Triton Reference. I just found out they aren’t shipping until May :(

I have had 3 different pairs of Vandersteen in the past and they didn't do real justice to rock music.  I had 2ci, 2ce signatures and 3a signatures.  I love my GE Triton Ones and will probably get the Triton References when they become available in late Spring.  I had an audio friend over yesterday and the look on his face when he heard my system said it all.  I have never seen this friend smile so much.  He kept saying that Diana Krall was singing in the room in front of us

I LOVE the GE speakers and will stick with them.  Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated.
