Why does the VPI motor thump

Why is it when I turn off my VPI motor I hear a thump through the loudspeakers? The only direct connection to the stereo is the belt.

It did come with a new yellow capacitor and I did install that. The only carryover part was some type of roundish electric piece with two wire leads. I installed it in the same place. But all that aside, why is there a sound made through my speakers at all?

I would buy another capacitor from radio shack if I knew what type and size to get. Does anyone have any info on that?
