Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
Started out with Elvis Costello/My Aim Is True then Warren Zevon/Excitable Boy, Steve Earl/ Guitar Town and finishing up with Jerry Lee Lewis/Live From Austin and the wife stayed up and listened to the first two and we shared a bottle of wine, nice night.
beatles--let it be. i'll submit that song-for-song this is their best album. granted, "one after 909" is a throwaway and "for you blue" mere filler, but side one is essentially perfect. the focus is justifiably on paul's opuses, but i always thought "dig a pony" and "don't let me down" were among john's finest.

elvis costello--taking liberties. an oddly coherent grab bag of outtakes and b-sides and as good a testament to his compositional genius as anything--this guy throws away better songs than 99% of his peers can even dream about. fully half of these 20 tunes rank with his best work, with "chelsea", "big tears" and "tiny steps" rocking as hard as anything he's done.
loomisjohnson,

Have you compared it to "Let It Be" (Naked)?

I'd go for "Abbey Road" or "Rubber Soul" or even "Revolver" (if was recorded better). "A Hard Day's Night" is underrated, IMO.

Happy Listening!
slaw, i have heard the naked version and i like the original better, though it's a close call--murder aside, spector was a genius. abbey road was my second fave--agree about hard day's night, tho i might rate help higher
John Field, The Complete Nocturnes for Piano, as performed by Elizabeth Joy Roe. No turntable, streaming. Hope that doesn't disqualify me.
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill, Katy Lied, The Royal Scam

RIP Walter Becker
Just got my Vandersteen model 3's put back together. First record on the TT as a test - Donald Fagen - "The Nightfly"

Rolling Stones "Stray Cats" from the mono box
Jame McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards -"Live in Aught-Three" - Great Stuff........
Speaking of Petty, he produced and performs on Chris Hillman's new album, which is available on LP and CD. I went to buy it today, and my store (Music Millennium in Portland) was sold out of both!
@bdp24

Wow thanks for the tip!

Just started playin'  Bidin' My Time and I can tell it will stay on heavy rotation.

Instantly I recognized the current Heartbreakers from the style of playing. Ferrone, Tench, and Campbell have left their indelible mark all over this. Love Campbell's Mandolin.

Fantastic album! Thank you !

shadorne, stoked you like it! I’ve been following Chris for years, both solo (some albums on Sugar Hill) and in The Desert Rose Band (a great group, with not only Chris, but also Herb Pedersen and Telecaster master John Jorgenson of The Hellecasters). Chris and Herb have done a few albums as partners too. Love ’em!

Thanks slaw, Millennium has it on reorder, should be back in stock in a coupla days. I believe I’ll get it on LP, even if it was recorded and/or mastered digitally. LP’s are just a more substantial experience! I did buy the latest Rodney Crowell CD, which I'll give a listen to in the morning.
