What type of receiver do I need

I have a Paramax 1000 watt home system. The sub woofer is 250 watts and the other five speakers are 150 watts each. What type of receiver should I look for and DVD player to be most compatible for my system?

Don't tell me you bought this off of the back of a white van? Or off of Craigslist? Sorry to break it to you but from what I know, this is a knock off of the Panamax name. 150 watt speakers don't mean much. 1000 watt system means nothing. 250 watt sub is questionable? Find a basic home theater receiver and see how things sound (older name brand, not unknown name, Marantz, Denon, Sony...). I wouldn't spend much on the receiver since you may end up cooking it. Check out the Paramax web site: just enough info to fool you if looking quickly. Try the dealer locator for example. Good luck and sorry to be so negative.
