What Tube Preamp for a Gainclone?

I was using a Scott 222B which I really enjoyed (with Omega 3R) and now am getting a small gainclone amp. What tube pre do you guys have experience with working well with the Gainclones? I really like the punchy sound of el84 tubes (scott, eico, almarro) etc.
