What songs do you never get tired of?

since i can think of too much music i could do without for
the rest of my life, it occurs to me that, imho, there are some songs i never tire of:

1. jimi hendrix- purple haze/the entire alblum are you experienced
2. csn & young- carry on
3. b.dylan/byrds- tambourine man
4. s.& garfunkel- scarborough fair
5. j.taylor- country road
6. t.monk- 'round midnight
7. js bach- "little fugue"
8. greensleves
9. tennessee waltz
10.w.nelson - crazy

-there's more, but i have a feeble memory (and i'm perhaps too sentimental...)

Since the operative phrase is "never tire", I'll stick to songs that are at least 10 years old. This would be a very long list, so -pop and rock only - 1 per decade:

'50's:
Johnny B. Goode-Chuck Berry (still the perfect song, in my book)
'60's:
Hello, It's Me - Todd Rundgren (IMHO the best readings came in the '70s, but the song was born in the '60's and this one will be with me forever)
'70s:
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac (one of the last links in the chain of truly immortal rock n roll songs that were also massive hits.)
'80s:
No More Casual Sex - Kid Creole (A lyric that I'll always treasure tied to a perfect dance song, topped off by an immortal fanfare from the horn section. My wife nixed this one for out first dance - party pooper!)
'90s:
Mother, I Just Can't get Enough - New Radicals (Gregg Alexander's rework of "Sympathy For The Devil" is not only IMHO better than the dozens of other "virtual covers" -okay, ripoffs- of SFTD out there, it is one of only two that I prefer to the original. World Party's "Way Down, Now" being the other.)

Obviously this list is reflective of my own quirky preferences, but there are so many songs that qualify that I simply chose those which have - I believe- logged the most "air time" in my house/car. As good a standard as any, I think for "never tire of".

BTW, Larry there are some amazing country songs out there. Rosanne Cash covers some timeless examples on her last album, The List, with amazing impact, so no need to apologize for going there. OTOH, if you include every genre, (start with doo wop, then jazz, then country, ...) you'll be here a looooong time.
Marty
Charles Aznabour's 'Yesterday When I Was Young'...on youtube...singing in English, with his somewhat thick French accent.
He wrote the song, though most people think that Roy Clark wrote it, as he had a major hit with this one many years ago.
Aznavour OWNS this...wow, great lyrics...and sadly too true.

Victims of Comfort- Keb Mo'
Cocaine Blues - Any and all versions
Comfortably Numb - Floyd
Message From Turner - M. Jagger
Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead -Tierney Sutton
My Own Peculiar Way -Willie N.
The End - Doors
Who Says- J. Mayer
And... gee,I hate to admit this but I feel compelled to be truthful here...Dancing Queen (yeah, THAT one)
Pretty much anything from Donald Fagen's "Nightfly" album. Astonishing writing.
I know it's not cool in some circles to mention country music...but there are two songs I love--and with the memories they conjure up--they'll live in me forever.
Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley...there's a story behind the song, that is so poignant that I'll share with whoever wants to know it. Write me [email protected]
Lyric of note..."He put a bottle to his head and pulled the trigger"...wow youtube's video is a tear jerker too.
One More Day--Diamond Rio...
The country music awards were on about a week after the 9/11 attack--during the 'In Memoriam' section of the show, mentioning all those who'd died that year in Country Music, they perfomed an Homage to the 9/11 victims, which in a curious way is the whole world, certainly all Americans, of course some, more than others--and when Diamond Rio started singing this, and pictures of the Twin Towers smouldering appeared, the Nashville elite collectively lost it, crying and holding one another--unabashedly, gut wrenchingly sobbing for the whole world to see.
No one who saw this and heard this song, could hold back the tears.
Also, anyone who's lost a loved one either through death or stupidity--wishes for that, "One More Day".

Music...there's nothing like it.

Well I may be a little nostaglic...or perhaps my Mom dropped me on my head when I was five but this always rasies the hair on my neck. Some deep seated childhood dream thing I guess....the good guys slaying monsters from the id perhaps?.. technology defeats the complex villain? ....maybe it is just the rocket launch thing ...I dunno....who knows...but most males will never tire of a good count down, lots of really heavy heavy GEAR, a rocket taking off and plenty of EXPLOSIONS!!!

Childhood Dreams

Hi Ryder - just to be clear, Peter Gabriel is the artist. "So" is the name of the CD. "Mercy Street" is the title of track 6.
Thanks for the tip. I'll check out Mercy Streets "So" as well. And just a note, my music may not be your cuppa tea and vice versa.
Ryder - thanks for the tip. I will have to check out things by 'Fourplay'. PG's "So" is old. If you don't have it, find it and give a listen. Hope you will enjoy it.
pink floyd Dogs from animals album (in fact the whole album should always be played in one sitting).
Carol kidd, when i dream
Led zeppelin, just about all of em..but since ive been lovin you is a fav
Ghosthouse,

Sorry I don't know Pink Floyd's as well. Fourplay is a jazz group. Well, I use it for my 'reference' solely because i like that track very much, and I find the quality of the album is good as well. The bass of this track goes deep and my speakers won't be able to produce to that level without the employment of a sub bass system.

I like that track so much that I never got sick of it playing in "Repeat" mode on my player. Just reminds me of why I have so many albums in my collection when I listen to this piece most of the time. Now that's what I call a song that live up to the title of this thread.
Ryder - Is that Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"? Don't know Fourplay. Will have to look them up. What do you like about the track that makes it good for reference use? FWIW "Mercy Street" on So serves that purpose for me.
Wish You Were Here - Fourplay

This track never failed to spin in the player whenever I listen to my music. In fact, the CD was always in the player for most of the time. My all-time favourite song and also my reference evaluation track to gauge the system whenever I perform any equipment changes.
I use Peter Gabriel's "So" as a warm up and reference CD.
The more I listen, the more I realize what a wonderful recording this is...(i.e., music, lyrics, arrangements, and production). I have played this CD uncountable times.
Whoops
I read the heading wrong. The song I love is Sade' "All about Love" from the Lovers Rock album. I can easily play this song 10 times in a listening session(which is what I did when I heard over headphones@Virgin Records.
I just discovered Eva Cassidy on YouTube. I'm tired of loud/bombastic classical(harpsichord too), sloppy blues players and not to be forgotten...Jazz at the Pawnshop(heard it for the first time in Japan in 1990 and don't to hear it again).
P.S.: I forgot to mention any AC/DC, The Wall and Clapton's Cocaine.
