What is your speaker ownership history since 1995?

As great as they are, the Quatro's are just amazing. I've heard so many of the speakers that have been mentioned in this thread. You can tell the type of ear folks have by what they are listening to over time. |
Jackcoke, I to am an avid Maggie owner since 1984 when I purchased my first pair of MG1 Imp. I am thinking about a speaker change in my system which I currently have 1.7i's. I have never owned the more expensive Maggies . The Maggie 20's are out of my price range so I am considering the 3.7 's. , or a totally different speaker manufacture. How would you compare the 3.7s to the 20.7? My listening is about 60%movies and 40% music, digital and LP's. |
You should look into the Vandersteen's Don. They give you the advantage of a dynamic speaker, but also the sound of a point source, which is what you are used to with Maggies. A friend of mine has both and LOVES them both. He's a jazz drummer and knows his music. Even teaches at Julliard. They are different speakers, but the VAndersteens are a much easier match for electronics. It's about which ones depending on your budget. Since you are looking at the 20.7's, you can swing the Quatro Carbon Fiber Tweeters I assume (similar cost). I just got mine from Audio Connection and they are killer. Johnny knows how to set up a system and he also sells the Maggies, so he can go over the similarities as well as the differences. They are in NJ, not sure where you are located. It's just another option. I know many of us who enjoy Maggies when set up properly, but want a dynamic, so the Vandersteen's were a natural. Keep us posted. |
@roxy54 Yes, the Impulse H1's are indeed one very fine never to be sold loudspeaker and are the best horn speaker I have heard to date. Same goes for the Oris 150's to a slightly lesser degree than the 1's. The Klipschorn is not as good as the H1's or the Oris 150's, it has the potential to be a truly excellent loudspeaker, but not in its unfettered guise. IMHO. Love all my horns though!..............lol |

1994 Koss M-80 Plus Speakers 1997 Some kind of speakers on loan from a friend. I think they were Advent Heritages 2000 or so B&W 602s 2009 or so B&W 603S3 2012 Vandersteen Quattro Wood Signature S2 also starting in 2014, I bought Proac Tablette Reference 8s for my office (previously was using Athenas), Vandersteen 2ce signature ii for home theater (plus Vandersteen subwoofer, center channel, and those Athenas for sides), and Vandersteen 1s for the man cave. |

Sounded great to my teenage ears. 2001ish: Infinity Modulus 2 System (sub and the rear sats still in use in my HT) 2015ish: KRK Rokit 8 studio monitors to replace Klipsch Promedia computer speakers Then Elac UB5s with an SVS SB12-NSD to replace the Rokit 8s Infinity IL40s and IL36C to replace the Modulus front soundstage 2017ish: Infinity Intermezzo 4.1t in my new dedicated 2-channel room |

Heard about Audiogon and other sites to buy used. Emerald Physics CS-2 2006 Didn’t like the veiled highs. VMPS 626R 2007-2011 First speaker I loved. added VMPS 215 VSS sub 2007-2010 Asked Brian Cheney it I could become a demonstrator/agent. Did this until his death and the end of VMPS speakers. VMPS RM40 2011 VMPS RM30 2011-2012 added ACI Maestro sub 2011 The VSS sub spoiled me. VMPS RM40 BCSE MLS 2012-2014 sold them--big mistake Green Mountain Audio Continuum 3HX 2013-2017 Rarely used. Selah Tempesta 2014-2016 Looking for something smaller but good. bought back same pair of VMPS RM40 BCSE MLS 2015-present Vapor Audio Joule/Cirrus hybrid 2018-present Bottom line--I really like the sound of VMPS speakers, but not the size (260 lbs. each). As a VMPS demo-agent, I had opportunity to own several models and also to trade up to better ones because owners would call me and ask if I was interested. For me, VMPS is tough to beat in sound--the clarity of 40" of ribbon drivers and the authority of the bass. |
