What do You listen to?

I was just browsing through the forums and ran across the "Most acheingly beautiful music" forum, and looked through all the responses and im somewhat confused.

Risking an all out brutal verbal assault by the 'Gon'ers, its becoming my impression that alot of the people here have a very limited taste in music.

It seems to be isolated around Classical, Contemporary, Soft Rock, and blues/jazz.

I would say Rock, but honestly, when i think of Rock i think of Metallica and GodSmack, not Jethro Tull or Grateful dead.
(i guess thats just an opinion though.

Now, Im hoping that people here have wider taste in music, after all, it comes in so many forms (even ones that older people refuse to recognize)

I mean hey, i gotta be honest, one of the best recordings ive heard was EMINEM's Marshal Mathers. Talk about a hell of a recording (musical content aside), it was crisp, clear, focused, and over all, one of the best recordings ive heard. (once again, im risking a brutal verbal assault.

So, Lets hear it for what types of music people listen to!
Just because i would rather Jam out to Metallica and drink beer instead of listening to Motzart with a fine wine does not mean my passion for music is any less!

What can i say? i dont listen to it. It feels somewhat formless and made up on the spot to me. Maybe i just need to look into it harder.

--Just a disclaimer, yes, i did list a couple satanic bands, however, i have no ties to the devil, The dark lord, the long walker, Cthulhu, Beezlebub, guy in red, the underlord, the silent beast, etc etc.. i do not slaughter goats or cast voodoo spells. I dont agree with the content but listen to it for its musical qualities which are suprisingly good, there is alot of heart and soul put into it, no puns intended.
hehehehehhehe

So who else has such a wide taste in music?
I own CD's of everything listed above!

lets hear it for music that others do not regfard as music!!!!!!!!

bwahahahahahahahaha
audiophanatik
Nrchy

"Satanism is similar to children on a playground mocking something they do not like. It has no firm beliefs other
than that Satan exists and the desire to mock 'Christianity.'

Exactly Nrchy, THATS BASICALLY WHAT IVE BEEN TRYING TO SAY.
-----------------Origional post by me-------------
Disclaimer, I do in fact know that SATANISM is not the worship of the devil, as commonly assumed
and believed. Satanism, if i remember correctly, is a believe in equalibrium, which entails the respect
and worship of both good and evil. The ying-Yang thing.
--------------------------------

i Never tried to give it a new definition,

It does not necessarily mean the worship of Satan, it DOES acknowledge the existance of satan, and god, but does not mean it is the "Worship" of satan. and in MOST satanic beliefs its all about balance of good and evil. yadda yadda yadda

For crying out loud can everybody just drop it?

You are all gonna make me burst a freakin vessle!

Lets get back to the music for christs sake, thats what we log on here for.
"For chirsts sake"? Audiop, you get all upset and you consistently post comments that are open for rebuttal! Maybe be more careful in your wording!
Funk.

Funk, Blues, and old rock.

Not sure what you all are talkin about here with this satanism stuff, you all starting a cult?

Dunno if i should get involved, But i thought i remember hearing a while back, satanism was something labeled to beliefs that the major religions (christian, jewish, catholic) did not agree with and that they found somewhat "arcane"? I'm sure that when they coined the term Satanism or Satanic, that they did mean "worship" of devil, however, most likley they were just pagans who probly did believe in that ying yang thing. Seems like you are all argueing the same point

either way,

I like george clinton, eric clapton, some of this, some of that. No britany spears or hard metal though. Makes my ears hurt.

Cheers
Well, Finally some one has diversified taste in Music as I have. I listened to many erom all of your categories and then some. Plus I also listen to Classical music too! . I am going thru a phase right now [Do you call it a phase when you listen to strictly one artist for more than two months ( well occassional dose of Radioheads new, Yeah yeah yeahs and white stripes) and can't have enough of it and bought their all of CD's, EP's and singles and begining to think all other music in that category is junk????] FOLKS I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED the ' AUTECHRE'.
Very very strange since I have been listening to this genre for last 20 + years.
I won't quite go as far as saying its and age thing. It's more a case of being open minded and willing to step outside your comfort zone. Except for Rap, HipHop, Satanic and Pop of the flavor of the month radio variety I like/own/listen to alot of whats on Audiophanatik's list.

Where we part company though is where Classical and Rap are concerned. I'm certainly no high-brow intellectual, but there's a few Classical pieces that are right up there on my list of all time favorite music. As far as Rap and HipHop goes as far as I'm concerned the majority of it is pure crap, and it sure as hell isn't about the Black Experience in America.

Like everyone else, I've got my preferences. I love the blues! Try out Johnny Shines, Blind Willie Johnson, Lightnin' Hopkins, or Howlin' Wolf. For a bridge between rock and blues, try out Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Lang and Jimi Hendrix. For Hendrix get yourself any one of his versions of "Redhouse" and crank it up to full volume.
I like at least some of every kind of music that Ive heard from all over the world, seems like every kind of music has some real stand out musicians that make it a pleasure to listen to,,
