Watt do I do?

I have a pair of ancient British-made speakers with 15 ohm Vitavox drivers, a horn and a woofer in each, and I want to avoid the loud
pop
when I turn them on.  Any easy fix ideas here?  This initiating intrusion into the speakers by the nefarious watts can't be good for them.  They are old but in great shape.....cosmetically.  Everything sounds wonderful and smooth except for the very deepest bass which causes them to ping.

THe problem is not in the speakers, the problem is in your amplifier. Most likely needs some sort of MUTE relay, or the mute relay it has is not working.
Also could be a faulty capacitor somewhere in the amplifier. The problem is definitely not your speakers.
If you have a separate amp and preamp, the preamp should be turned ON first, amp second. When turning off, amp off first, preamp off second.
Sounds like a great candidate for a tube amplifier.
