VPI Inverted Bearing , Ball Bearing on the shaft ?

Might sound silly, but the ball bearing on top of the inverted bearing shaft on a VPI Classic 1 table, is that ball pressed and / or glued into that shaft so it cannot move, so the platter bearing surface rotates on it ?

OR

Is the ball bearing loose and rotate on / in that shaft , meaning the ball could be removed ?

Thanks

I've dealt with this before and the consensus is that the ball is loose. The shaft is rougher than the bearing surface meaning that the ball is held still while the bearing surface rotates.
