Vintage Carver

Anyone still using Carver, if so how old and have you done any work to them such as recapping ?

thanks

Still using two Carver TFM-42s in mono mode driving my newly acquired Legacy Whisper XDS. No modifications, may look into recapping myself in the near future. Am considering a pair of Raven 350s.

Carver Amazing Silver speakers have been re-purposed to the home gym.

Have a CT-17 Pre-amp, sd/a-490t CD Player and a cassette deck (can't remember model number). None of which are being used at this time.
I still use a HR-772 I bought new in the mid 80s for my office.  I run a TFM 35 in my bedroom & an upgraded TFM 45 in my living room .
I had an MXR-130 receiver for 30 years. It sounded terrific, IMO. At the time I sold it (about three years ago) it wasn’t "worth" more than $200. It needed to be repaired twice for the same reason, having to do with burnt resistors on the top most board (those who read my post elsewhere know I play loud, so the unit got hot) and I (supposedly) didn’t keep enough clearance to cool the unit passively. When the unit was brand new, there was a problem with the relays, and that too was repaired.

I have Bob’s cell number and personal email (albeit the data is a few years old) should anyone be interested. PM me. I also have other carver repair contact info.

I’m reluctant to post this type of info on the forum on account of certain recent posts of mine have been viewed in a negative light. :)

Sorry about the delayed response. This is Rolland's info.
I still have my Phase Linear 400 that I still use and can't seem to part with.  I have a near perfect 4000 preamp that I never use and is in storage with a host of other goodies.

i have always liked Bobs amps.  Always.

I’m talking about HiTechAudio. He’s well know for carver audio repair but I don’t recall if that was or is a name he goes by. I have my port work at home and will update you with the details when I get there.
Thanks.  This is helpful for those of us who look to buy used gear to save money.
I am using my early 90’s Carver now retired as my second system. I have a HR742 receiver used as a preamp, two A500x amps in bridged mono, sda 490t cd with Cambridge Soundworks Tower I speakers and monster cable 90’s cables. I have done no service to these items other than cleaning and they sound great considering their age and original cost.
I recently had them fully recapped and serviced by Rolland @ HiTech
Audio in southern WA
Are you talking about Carver audio repair ?
Rolland assures me that each of my freshly rebuilt amps could go toe to toe with any $2k-3k amp on the market today and these will blow them out of the water. I haven’t had the chance to actually test that theory, however, I do believe him.

You bet, just look at what their asking for old Carver gear on Ebay..

Thanks for the replys, I have a C-2 pre amp and two M400-t I run mono into Ohm Walsh 2's.

To this day it still sounds great, however at 36 years old I am sure the caps are beyond their life. I have considered a recap but then think why if it's still performing well..

Anyone else ?
I have a Carver M1.0T MK II with Opt 002. It's been about four years since I had it upgraded and have had no problem. Know Carver doesn't get much praise but it works for me.
I still have a TFM 15 used with my KLH Nines and Ohm Sound Cylinders. Working and sounding fine!
I am using a pair of TFM-35x amps bi-wired to drive my 2 channel system. I recently had them fully recapped and serviced by Rolland @ HiTech Audio in southern WA. Both amps are from the early 90's and both were functioning ok before the service. After the service I've fallen in love all over again. I had the CAPs upgraded to Poly, lights upgraded to Ice Blue LED, and many other minor things done. Rolland assures me that each of my freshly rebuilt amps could go toe to toe with any $2k-3k amp on the market today and these will blow them out of the water. I haven't had the chance to actually test that theory, however, I do believe him.

I'll try and post a couple pictures of my amps if I can figure out how.

What amps did you have in question?
I do have a friend that uses 2 - TFM-55x's, along with an A-753x powering his Martin Logan 7 channel setup.
Bob Carver has a few different amp designs, which ones are you referring too? (magnetic field amps, Sunfire amps, tube amplifiers)
