Verity Audio or Reference 3a ?

The MM De capo's have had several upgrades done to them that make them sounbd even better. They also offer a waveguide conduction upgrade for 600 extra that is standard in there better speakers. The result is a awesome speaker that is very very musical. Matching this speaker with tubes is crucial.

IME (I've owned deCapos and Parsifals) the Verity and 3a "house sounds" are very different. Verity speakers are voiced with a mid-bass hump and falling response thereafter. Th deCapo is much flatter, but rolled at both extremes. The net effect (to my ear) is that the deCapo is neutral, revealing, and a touch "dry". The Verity is more "musical" (that is, bad recordings tend to sound better on the Verity) and punchier.

Disclaimer: My experience with 3a is limited to the modestly priced deCapo while I've heard most of the Verity line. My observations are undoubtedly colored by my ownership of the much more expensive Verity P/E, but I'm pretty comfortable with the general observation that the 3a will likely be "drier" and more neutral, while the Verity will be punchier and more forgiving.

I have owned two pairs of the Grand Veeenas and have enjoyed them very much. I have a feeling that the Nefes are going to sound very different than the standard 3A sound. Just my opinion.

The Verity Leonore is the way to go in my opinion. This is an extremely well rounded , genuinely world-class speaker that looks sublime in person.

Many people swear by their 3A's. I have only show impressions to go on.
The current line-up is mystifying to me. They seem to be joined at the hip of Rick Schultz. The times I've heard them at shows the last couple of years with all of his magnetic apparatus and wires the sound was very mediocre considering the system cost and at times fatiguing.

As far as ascetics go, I don't get how you could settle on that depressing color for your entire line. Clearly, like the AVM anti-resonance liquid, the blue color is somehow necessary for their design goals. But unfortunately it makes for least welcoming looking speaker on the market to come home to.

A friend has the latest model De Capo and it is a really great-sounding speaker.
