Vandersteen-Wadia synergy advise.

Is anyone employing Vandersteen subwoofers without a preamp?
I've eliminated my BAT pre-amp from the loop and going direct into the amps, changed the front end from the 850 to 270/27ix....
The resolution has increased to the extent that the 3A sigs can't quite keep up down towards the lower freqs and the super balance I previously had (with the 850/3Asigs) is lacking in terms of definition down low compared to the rest of the spectrum.
Thanks in advance for ideas and impressions.

could you rephrase your question? Didn't understand what your asking exactly?
So you want to add a pair of 2Wq subwoofers without a preamp? It doesn't seem like it would be a problem. You would have to add the crossover in between the CD player and the amplifier, but I don't really see any reason why this couldn't work.

With the level of resolution that you're getting, however, it would be in your best interest to build your own (or have somebody build for you) crossover modules. The ones from Vandersteen seem to dull details and kind of flatten out the music, but building your own with better parts could make for a great result.
