Used players better than $1.2K 13 yr old player?

Folks,

I have a G&D Transforms CD player I bought in '98 for $1,200. It's prototype that never went into production, so probably no one here has heard it or of it. (You may have heard of G&D Transform transports. They were mentioned in show reports at the time). I am hoping some people will have an opinion on how much more one gets for one's bucks from players, say 3-5 yrs old. I am wondering/hoping, one can get significantly better sound from a player (just a CD player) for under $500.

Thanks!

I guess that I’m the only person in the world who was NOT impressed by the Oppo BDP-95. To my ears it was cold, clinical, and lifeless. Just BLAH for lack of a better term. I sent mine back for a refund.

My primary CD player at the moment is a Cary 303/300 with a pair of RCA “clear top” 12AU7s installed. I find it very natural and involving. I love listening to it. Very nice!

In my secondary system I have a Shanling SCD-T2000. It is also a very nice CD player. It has the advantage of being able to play SACDs as well.

I guess perhaps that I’m just a sucker for CD players with tubed output sections. Either way I can strongly recommend either the Cary or Shanling. Great CD players.
