Aoltes, Forget Krell, move up to BAT. I have a pair of BAT VK1000 monoblocks that will tear apart the Krell stuff. I'll even sell them to you if you want. Take care.
A move to the KRC-HR would be a positive move. Other than that, you don't say what you have for interconnect, power cords, etc. I would look to those areas before spending money on new (pre-owned too) equipment. Room size and what speakers you have would also help.
I agree with squidboyw. The KRC-HR ia a much better pre-amp. I don't think that going to the KAV 300 is a real step up. There are many other CDPs that might offer better performance.

Forget the BAT. It is not a step up in what you are looking for, and you don't seem to have any interest in it anyway since you never mentioned it. Zippyy must have landed on the wrong thread.

You would really like the FPB series of amps. Unlike earlier models, they are class A to full rated power, not just the first few watts. They sound better than the older amps, and the original FPB amps can be had at a reasonable price. They are much more neutral than older Krell amps, and seem to have less of a sonic signature.
Please tell us a little about your system?
