Universal that acts like a cd player

I have an OPPO dv 970 and it does sound quite good in my system but its load time is slow and the remote is needed for ff and rew etc.- I'm looking for a universal that above all sounds great for redbook and also is user friendly like a dedicated cd player- budget is $500(or less)-

The well-regarded Denon 3910 is now selling used at around $500 and there are always several available here on Audiogon.

I have the 2910 and one of the reasons I settled on it is the simplicity of the controls and the build quality at the price.
