Albert,the plot follows the Bronson movie loosely. But if you liked the original, this worth the time to watch.

I always think of the 1972 Charles Bronson version of "The Mechanic."

Any similarity in plot or just two movies with a shared name?

The tonearm should have been a Mission Mechanic.
More than once when I've seen the thread title in the list, for a split second I've thought that the thread is about the Mission tonearm. Not seen one in the flesh but apparently a fairly serious attempt when it came out.

There must be a pair of the big Meridian floorstanders in some studio's props department because they show up with some regularity in depictions of penthouses and other upscale flats.

And I too marveled that a $199 cartridge (Ortofon 2M Red) would provide the front end for that hodge-podge of nice gear. BTW, what were those speakers--KEFs?

As Mofimadness clarified in his post above, the cart was not an ZYX, but an Ortofon Red (or possibly Bronze).

One thing I noticed was that he allowed for absolutely no warm-up time for the tubed amplifier, which no good audiophile would ever be caught doing...Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the script.

Another movie that comes to mind is "Indecent Proposal" in which Robert Redford's character had some high-end turntable at his house, but it's been years since I saw the film and do not remember what it was.

An episode of "Sex and the City" had the main character dating a jazz club owner who tried to explain jazz to her while playing some sweet jazz tunes on his 'table, but it was definitely not super fancy; looked like a Music Hall, or perhaps Well-Tempered, but it wasn't shown long enough to really tell.

In "Dinner for Schmucks" with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell Paul Rudd's character has Meridian speakers and gear in his apartment.

I also recall seeing a trailer for a film with Robert De Niro a few years back where you could see Avantgarde horns and Classe electronics, but I do not recall the title.

I guess the system used MM phono stage.

Why such a low budget cart for such a high end table?

He must have sold it on Agon before the explosion and was waiting for his new upgrade to be delivered by UPS.....

Seem to be a popular thing to include vinyl in movies these days. What's the most expensive high-end system you've seen in the movies? I just saw a complete Burmeister system in a Hong Kong flick. No turntable though.

The McIntosh piece, (according to what I found on AudioKarma) is a C22 reissue and yes it was pulled before being blown up.

OK but what is the McIntosh pre-amp he is using? It is dated compared to the rest of his system. Also at the end I thought is was interesting that the pre-amp was not included in the "explosion scene". Theory: he was killed because he wasn't properly cleaning the LP, didn't spin start a belt drive platter, clean the stylus, and clearly didn't appreciate that gorgeous Jag!

There are still pics I found on the AudioKarma site that shows that this is a Sumiko Project RM-9.2 table with an Ortofon Red cart. Also, I found quite a few discussions on this matter.

I just watched this movie and I could swear that the table was a Sumiko Project RM-10 with an Ortofon Red or Bronze cartridge?

I guess I will need to watch it again...
