The Good Stuff

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. --  Duke Ellington

This purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post outstanding examples of the Good Music.

You may be confusing Rock & Roll with 'Rock'.  Two entirely different things.

THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS

Nonesuch 1988

 Wikipedia:  The Gospel at Colonus is an African-American musical version of Sophocles's tragedy, Oedipus at Colonus. The show was created in 1983 by the experimental-theatre director Lee Breuer, one of the founders of the seminal American avant-garde theatre company Mabou Mines, and composer Bob Telson.

I was introduced to The Gospel at Colonus from its airing on PBS (a DVD was later released but no longer available). The story of Oedipus set to gospel music is irresistible. I saw it performed live in the 1990's, with some of the original cast including The Blind Boys of Alabama. It was one of the most memorable performances of anything I've seen.

@mspot

I have a copy of the DVD, but I prefer the CD.  I actually have two copies of the CD, just in case I drop one, resulting in permanent damage. :)
