The Chieftains - which CDs have the best sound?

I have a few CDs of the Chieftains and love their music. The only one of mine that has truly good sonics is "James Galway & The Chieftains/Over the Sea to Skye," RCA 60424-2-RC. I'd like to get more of their stuff but, audiophile that I am, prefer to get the better sounding ones. Please recommend any that you know of that really sound good, or those of other groups that do similar Irish music and are especially well recorded. Thanks.

I'm glad you asked this question, because I've been wanting an answer to the very same question. Thanks.
Tears of stone is outstanding sonically. There are a lot of different guest singers such as Diana Krall, Loreena McKennitt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Coors etc, etc. Beautiful sounding female vocals. Enjoy!
THE LONG BLACK VEIL on MoFi Gold CD [Cat.# UDCD 762]. Excellent sonics and features lead vocals by Sting, Mick Jagger, Sinead O'Conner, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Jones, and the Rolling Stones. Not too pricey either...I think that I paid $35- or less 2 or 3 months ago.

DOUBLE WOW!!!
Just listened to Chieftains "The Celtic Harp" the other day. Sound is very good.
Also try "Invocation" by group Anuna.
The Scottish folk group "Ossian" has produced half-a-dozen (or more) albums which I've been listening to almost 20 years with great pleasure.
Let us know if any of these work for you!

Good question.I've heard "Water from the Well" and have wanted to buy it ever since.Regular redbook as I remember, but sonically as good as most "remastered" cd's.
The Long Black Veil. I have this on the standard redbook cd and it sounds great, but will now try to find it on MoFi Gold. Thanks Fatparrot!
Yes, great recommendations, y'all. Thanks for taking out the time to answer my question. Texasdave, please let me know how you like "Over the Sea to Skye."
I second the MoFi "Long Black Veil." I'm pretty new to the Chieftains' music, but I picked up the MFSL on a lark. I wasn't disappointed. Excellent music and terrific sonics. I borrowed the original CD from a friend, and the MFSL betters it in every respect. If you're a fan of the album, it's worth the extra money.
"Tears of Stone" rates an unqualified recommendation here... Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, the Rankins, Sinead O'Connor, Loreena McKennitt, and Mary Chapin Carpenter are among the featured artists...

Try The Chieftains and Van Morrison, a fine sounding CD. MFSLs Long Black Veil sounds just a little edgy on top to me. May be me, my system or the CD I'm not sure. Musically, Chieftains 8 has always been a favorite. I think the entire Chieftains catalog could benefit from a quality remastering.
